Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Scaffolds to Engineer the Dormant Landscape of Microscopic Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Decellularized liver extracellular matrix scaffolds provide a platform to study dormant liver‐metastatic colorectal cancer. They induce reversible dormancy, in combination with nutrient depletion and low dose chemotherapy, through cell cycle arrest and chemotherapy resistance.

DNA break site at fragile subtelomeres determines probability and mechanism of antigenic variation in African trypanosomes.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2013
Antigenic variation in African trypanosomes requires monoallelic transcription and switching of variant surface glycoprotein (VSG) genes. The transcribed VSG, always flanked by '70 bp'-repeats and telomeric-repeats, is either replaced through DNA double ...

Human Herpesvirus-6 U14 Induces Cell-Cycle Arrest in G2/M Phase by Associating with a Cellular Protein, EDD. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) infection induces cell-cycle arrest. In this study, we found that the HHV-6-encoded U14 protein induced cell-cycle arrest at G2/M phase via an association with the cellular protein EDD, a mediator of DNA-damage signal ...

Tumor-initiating cells contribute to radiation resistance in primary human renal clear cell carcinomas by activating the DNA damage checkpoint response.

open access: yesOncology Letters, 2017
The use of radiotherapy in patients with clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC) is predominantly limited to palliation of metastases or control of local growth, because ccRCC cells readily develop radioresistance.

Phase‐Separation of YAP Mediates AJUBA Super Enhancer Activation to Promote Aberrant Mitosis in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
YAP undergoes phase separation to activate the AJUBA super‐enhancer, driving aberrant mitosis through spindle checkpoint dysregulation in breast cancer. This study uncovers a mechanistic link between YAP condensates, super‐enhancer activation, and aneuploidy formation.

BET Bromodomain Inhibition Synergizes with PARP Inhibitor in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Summary: PARP inhibition is known to be an effective clinical strategy in BRCA mutant cancers, but PARP inhibition has not been applied to BRCA-proficient tumors.

EIF1AX Nucleolar Condensates Enhance Susceptibilities for the Management of Endometrial Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This schematic illustrates the mechanism of a senolytic strategy in endometrial cancer. EIF1AX facilitates the incorporation of DDX21 into nucleolar condensates, an event that suppresses rDNA transcription and induces cellular senescence. The compound 2,5‐MeC exploits this pathway by promoting EIF1AX nucleolar translocation and condensate formation ...

K-Ras-Independent Effects of the Farnesyl Transferase Inhibitor L-744,832 on Cyclin B1/Cdc2 Kinase Activity, G2/M Cell Cycle Progression and Apoptosis in Human Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Cell

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2000
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is a highly lethal malignancy that is resistant to traditional cytotoxic therapy. High rates of activating codon 12 K-Ras mutations in this disease have generated considerable interest in the therapeutic application of ...

CCDC41 Drives Oocyte Meiotic Progression by Promoting Rab11a/Rab7‐Positive Vesicle Fusion with Target Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CCDC41 is essential for meiotic maturation in mouse oocytes through regulating Rab7‐positive endosomes fusion with lysosomes and Rab11a‐positive vesicle fusion with the plasma membrane. Abstract Coiled‐coil domain‐containing protein 41 (CCDC41), a core component of centriolar distal appendages involved in centriole assembly and ciliary vesicle docking,
