Bacterial survival and mineralization of p-nitrophenol in soil by green fluorescent protein-marked Moraxella sp. G21 encapsulated cells [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Ecology, 1999
Moraxella sp. G21 cells marked with the green fluorescent protein (gfp) survived in kappa-carrageenan beads and as free cells for a month after inoculation into autoclaved soil and non-sterile soil contaminated with p-nitrophenol (PNP). Similar [U-(14)C]PNP mineralization values were produced by encapsulated Moraxella sp.

The FsrA‐Mediated Iron‐Sparing Response Regulates the Biosynthesis of the Epipeptide EPE in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 125, Issue 2, Page 108-122, February 2026.
Under iron‐limited conditions, FsrA base‐pairs with the intergenic region between epeX and epeE, enhancing epeE translation and triggering EPE production. Toxin‐mediated cell lysis releases nutrients, including iron, which can be taken up by surviving cells.

A selective breeding design based on parental rapid heat stress thresholds did not produce more heat‐tolerant coral larvae

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 1, January–March 2026.
Coral broodstock were phenotyped using a rapid heat stress assay and ranked according to their performance (photochemical efficiency). Selectively breeding the broodstock based on their performance did not produce larvae with enhanced heat tolerance. Created in BioRender. Lamb, A. (2025) https://BioRender.com/zcgk0g6.

They're Out There, You Know: Sea Turtle Sightings and Strandings in Canadian Pacific Waters

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
A comprehensive summary of all known sea turtle occurrences in Canadian Pacific (British Columbia, BC) waters from 1931 to 2024, including demographics, spatiotemporal distribution, and pathologic findings. The dataset contains sightings of 247 sea turtles from four species, including the first five records of olive ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys ...

Community structure and range shifts in Arctic marine fish under climate change

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 1, January 2026.
Arctic marine ecosystems are rapidly transforming due to climate change. Warming temperatures and shrinking sea ice are enabling boreal fish to expand northward, possibly disturbing cold‐adapted Arctic species assemblages. Species range shifts have been documented in the Bering and Barents Seas, raising concerns about ecosystem restructuring.

Functional Relevance of CASP16 Nucleic Acid Predictions as Evaluated by Structure Providers

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, Volume 94, Issue 1, Page 51-78, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Accurate biomolecular structure prediction enables the prediction of mutational effects, the speculation of function based on predicted structural homology, the analysis of ligand binding modes, experimental model building, and many other applications.

Price and Volatility Transmission From International to Domestic Food and Fertilizer Markets in Central America

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, Volume 57, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Recent global shocks have triggered sharp spikes in international food and fertilizer prices, raising concerns about their domestic impacts. This study examines the extent to which international price levels and volatility are transmitted to domestic food and fertilizer markets in seven Central American countries.

Ancient Geomagnetic Field Intensities--II Geological Data: Sets G1-G21 Historic and Archeological Data: H10-H13 [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1967
Summary The accompanying tables contain all geological field intensity data known to the author in 1967 June together with additional historic and archeomagnetic data made available since the previous list was prepared (Smith 1967c). As before, historic and archeological time has been defined as the past 10000 years.
