Inhibition of hippocampal mossy fiber plasticity and episodic memory by human Aβ oligomers is prevented by enhancing cAMP signaling in Alzheimer's mice [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 21, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Early episodic memory impairment in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is linked to synaptic dysfunction from amyloid β‐protein oligomers (oAβ), particularly affecting the dentate gyrus mossy fiber‐CA3 pathway. The APPNL‐G‐F mouse model exhibits early deficits in mossy fiber long‐term potentiation (mf‐LTP).

Photoreceptor degeneration has heterogeneous effects on functional retinal ganglion cell types

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Photoreceptor loss has heterogeneous effects on functional retinal ganglion cell (RGC) types. A, illustrations of cross‐sections of rd10 retinae at different time points during degeneration. Left: P30, rod degeneration has commenced, cones are still unaffected.

The mysterious middlemen making your vision pop: understanding the function of amacrine cells

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend This review aims to illustrate the diversity and function of amacrine cells in the retina. The diversity of amacrine cell subtypes is depicted based on morphology, stratification and neurotransmitter expression, along with their synaptic connectivity with bipolar and ganglion cells, emphasizing inhibitory and modulatory roles ...

Genetic diversity among black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) accessions based on quantitative and qualitative traits

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
Abstract To investigate the genetic diversity in black cumin (Nigella sativa L.), a total of 64 genotypes were tested in an 8 × 8 simple lattice design at Sirinika Agricultural Research Center for two consecutive years during 2022/2023 and 2023/2024.

Assessing genetic variation, genotype‐environment interactions, and genomic prediction for cassava garri quality

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 65, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
Abstract In this study, we assessed the genetic and genotype by environment interaction variation and genomic prediction of the garri quality traits of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz). The study was conducted in the National Root Crop Research Institute experimental sites in Umudike and Otobi, Nigeria, in two planting seasons of 2021 and 2022.

Spatial Distribution of Ion Cyclotron Waves at Io

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 8, 28 April 2025.
Abstract Ion cyclotron waves at Io are important for understanding the complex interactions between Io and Jupiter's magnetosphere. In this study, we analyze the spatial distributions of ion cyclotron waves at Io using data from seven close flybys of Io—five by Galileo and two by Juno.

The Structural Permissiveness of Triosephosphate Isomerase (TpiA) of Escherichia coli

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
The enzyme triosephosphate isomerase has a typical (βα)8‐barrel superfold with eight βα units, linked together by loops which wrap around to form a cylinder of parallel β‐strands (β‐barrel) surrounded by a layer of parallel α‐helices. Such loops L1–L3 are candidates for insertion of extra amino acids, but genetic analyses shown in this work reveals ...

Finance research over 40 years: What can we learn from machine learning?

open access: yesInternational Studies of Economics, Volume 19, Issue 4, Page 472-507, December 2024.
Abstract We apply machine learning models to a universe of 20,185 finance articles published between 1976 and 2015 on 17 finance journals, and objectively identify 38 research topics. The financial crisis, hedge/mutual fund, social network, and culture were the fastest growing topics, while market microstructure, initial public offering, and option ...

High‐isolation single‐layer dual‐mode substrate‐integrated waveguide diplexers for millimetre‐wave applications

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas &Propagation, Volume 18, Issue 9, Page 637-645, September 2024.
A high‐isolation single‐layer dual‐mode substrate‐integrated waveguide diplexer for millimetre‐wave applications is proposed. Its equivalent coupling scheme and operating electric‐field distributions in substrate‐integrated waveguide cavity are presented.

Beyond acquiescence and compromise: Organizational strategies in pluralizing institutional environments

open access: yesEuropean Management Review, Volume 21, Issue 3, Page 645-658, September 2024.
Abstract We set out to investigate how organizations respond to the variety of requirements as experienced in their pluralizing institutional environments. We found that, in addition to acquiescence and compromise, Dutch vocational education and training (VET) organizations predominantly respond with cooperation and coordination strategies.
