Age- and length-at-maturity of female arrowtooth flounder (Atheresthes stomias) in the Gulf of Alaska [PDF]
Arrowtooth flounder (Atheresthes stomias) has had the highest abundance of any groundfish species in the Gulf of Alaska since the 1970s (Matarese et al., 2003; Turnock et al., 2005; Blood et al., 2007); however, commercial catches have been restricted ...

The detection of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) using loop mediated isothermal amplification in conjunction with a simplified DNA extraction process [PDF]
Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is a commercially important species of white fish, and one of three species legally identifiable as cod in the UK. Mislabelling of G. morhua does occur, as does the substitution of G.

Associations of Commercial Fisheries and Cold‐Water Corals and Sponges
Three metrics for determining whether the marine life that are landed by commercial fisheries are associated with cold‐water corals and sponges: (a) Adjacent; (b) General Proximity; and (c) Habitat. The relationship between these structure forming invertebrates (SFI) and fisheries is robust across analytical approaches.

ABSTRACT Measures of an organism's weight at a given length are often considered reliable indicators of energy reserves or ‘condition’, which can be related to fecundity and risk of mortality. Understanding the impact of environmental change on fish condition may therefore inform sustainable management of human activities in marine ecosystems.

Maturity and Spawning of Pacific Cod (Gadus macrocephalus) in the East Sea
The maturity and spawning of Pacific cod, Gadus macrocephalus, was studied using samples caught by gillnets in the East Sea from January to December 2003. Monthly changes of maturity observed with the naked eyes for females showed that maturing Pacific cod appeared from August, and their numbers increased to in November and December, respectively.

Egg quality of an Asian catfish of the Mekong river (Pangasius hypophthalmus) during the process of maturation induced by hCG injections [PDF]
In captive Pangasius hypophthalmus, oocyte maturation and ovulation are induced by hormonal injection following a given protocol: preparatory injections (500 VI.kg-) and decisive injection (2000 VI.kg-).

ABSTRACT The waters surrounding Korea are an economically–ecologically important region due to their high fishery productivity and role as seasonal migratory routes for the spawning and growth of commercially valuable species. We evaluated temporal changes in dominant fisheries species in encompassing large marine ecosystem (LME) areas 47, 48, and 50 ...

Hydrographic influence on the spawning habitat suitability of western Baltic cod (Gadus morhua) [PDF]
Recruitment variability of marine fish is influenced by the reproductive potential of the stock (i.e. stock characteristics and abundance) and the survival of early life stages, mediated by environmental conditions of both a physical (water temperature ...
