A Galactan from Mycoplasma mycoides

Nature, 1958
LITTLE is known of the carbohydrates of Mycoplasma mycoides var. mycoides, the organism responsible for bovine contagious pleuropneumonia. (This is the nomenclature usod by R. S. Breed, E. G. D. Murray and N. R. Smith in the seventh edition of “Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology”, p. 1. (Williams and Wilkins Co., Baltimore, 1957). We use the

Characterization of idiotypes on antibodies to galactan

Annales de l'Institut Pasteur / Immunologie, 1984
The correlation between the primary structure and the expression of idiotypy in the anti-galactan antibody system is extremely precise. Amino-acid residues, which are implicated in the expression of recurrent or private idiotopes, are localized in the CDR3 region of all hybridomas and of at least 2 out of 4 myeloma proteins.

Bifidobacterium bifidum presents on the cell surface a complex mixture of glucans and galactans with different immunological properties.

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2019
The chemical structure of cell surface polysaccharides isolated from Bifidobacterium bifidum strain PRI1, an important member of the gut microbiota of breast-fed infants, has been elucidated by chemical and NMR spectroscopy analysis. Results demonstrated

Galactans and galactan-containing polysaccharides of higher plants

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2000
Research on the chemical structure and physiological activity of galactan and galactan-containing polysaccharides of higher plants is reviewed. The principal chain in galactan-containing polysaccharides consists of 1–3, 1–4, 1–6, and α- and β-bonded D-galactopyranoses.

The ε-Galactan of Larch Wood

Nature, 1941
THE occurrence of this material, which is of considerable interest in connexion with the chemistry of wood formation, has been recognized for some time and it has been shown to contain d-galactose and l-arabinose residues1. In a recent article2 descriptions are given of esters of this galactan and of its methyl ether, and the authors tentatively ...

Galactan in Western Latch Wood

Journal of Forestry, 1951
Abstract A quantitative determination was made by the U. S. Forest Products Laboratory of the galactan in western larch woods and sawmill refuse to obtain data useful to those contemplating commercial ventures designed to produce and market various materials made of galactan.

The galactan sulphate of the red alga polysiphonia lanosa

Carbohydrate Research, 1975
The structure of the galactan sulphate of P. lanosa has been established by a combination of methylation, treatment with alkali, and partial methanolysis of the alkali-treated polysaccharide to give derivatives of agarobiose. The polysaccharide belongs to the agar class, in which 3-linked derivatives of beta-D-galactose alternate with 4-linked ...

Homogeneous, anti-galactan immunoglobulins the question of specificity

Immunochemistry, 1976
Abstract Several murine, anti-galactan immunoglobulins have been investigated for their specificity. They interact with polysaccharide antigens whose structure either has been shown to include β- D -(1,6)-linked galactopyranosyl residues, or whose proposed structure is not incompatible with the possible presence of thay linkage type.
