Untargeted metabolomics reveals key metabolites and genes underlying salinity tolerance mechanisms in maize

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract Understanding the physiological, metabolic, and genetic mechanisms underlying salt tolerance is essential for improving crop resilience and productivity, yet their complex interactions remain poorly defined. We compared physiological and metabolic responses to salinity between two contrasting maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines: the salt ...

Gut Microbiota and Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Metabolic Products and Immunotherapy Modulation

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 9, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The relationship between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and gut microbiota has gained attention for its impact on HCC immunotherapy. Methods Key gut microbial metabolites, including bile acids, toll‐like receptor 4, short‐chain fatty acids, and bacterial toxins, contribute to HCC progression and influence immune responses through ...

4‐O‐Methylglucaric Acid Production from Xylan with Uronic Acid Oxidase and Comparison to Glucaric Acid from Glucose

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
Beechwood glucuronoxylan was enzymatically hydrolyzed and the resulting 4‐O‐methylglucuronic acid was oxidized to 4‐O‐methylglucaric acid by uronic acid oxidase with a yield of 95 %. High purity (98 % w/w) 4‐O‐methylglucaric acid was isolated from the reaction mixture and was demonstrated to perform similarly to commercial glucaric acid in detergent ...

A New Platform Molecule from Gluconolactone? Access to Furanics, Rare Sugars, β‐Ketoamides and Amino Furanones

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 1, January 2, 2025.
Gluconolactone, readily derived from glucose, is transformed into a versatile hydroxymethyl furanoic ester in two steps. The reactions are catalyzed by either acid or base. The key intermediate from the base‐catalyzed elimination has been studied in detail and found to serve as a versatile platform for the synthesis of highly functionalized molecules ...

Natural variation in the chickpea metabolome under drought stress

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 22, Issue 12, Page 3278-3294, December 2024.
Summary Chickpea is the world's fourth largest grown legume crop, which significantly contributes to food security by providing calories and dietary protein globally. However, the increased frequency of drought stress has significantly reduced chickpea production in recent years.

Metabolomic differences between exanthematous drug eruption and infectious mononucleosis

open access: yesSkin Research and Technology, Volume 30, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Background Exanthematous drug eruption and infectious mononucleosis (IM) are both exanthematous diseases. Current research on exanthematous drug eruption and IM mainly targets identifying these disorders, the resulting differences at the metabolism level have not yet been systematically analyzed.

Upcycling of Agricultural Waste Stream to High‐Molecular‐Weight Bio‐based Poly(ethylene 2,5‐furanoate)

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 17, Issue 9, May 8, 2024.
Orange peel and sugar beet pulp contain pectin, which can be turned into furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) and its esters. In this work, we show the polymerisation of these esters into high‐molecular‐weight poly(ethylene 2,5‐furanoate) (PEF). PEF is an emerging bio‐based alternative for poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET).
