Learning the Universe: GalactISM Simulations of Resolved Star Formation and Galactic Outflows across Main-sequence and Quenched Galactic Environments

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a suite of six high-resolution chemodynamical simulations of isolated galaxies, spanning observed disk-dominated environments on the star-forming main sequence, as well as quenched, bulge-dominated environments.

Discovery of two new millisecond pulsars toward the Galactic bulge

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Aims. The mysterious Galactic center (GC) gamma-ray (γ-ray) excess (GCE) could be explained by a large population of millisecond pulsars (MSPs) hiding in the Galactic bulge, too faint to be detected as individual high-energy point sources by the Fermi ...

Rotation of the Galactic bulge

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
We present results from spectroscopic observations of K giants in two fields towards the Galactic bulge. The mean Galactocentric velocity and velocity dispersion for a field at l, b=(8,7) are =45±10 km s −1 and σ=85±7 km s −1 . For a field at l, b=(12,3) we find =77±9 km s −1 and σ=68±6 km s −1 . The bulge of the Galaxy is found to be rotating, and

The Bulge Cluster Origin (BulCO) survey with CRIRES at the ESO-VLT: A chemical screening of the globular cluster NGC 6553★

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
In this paper, we present the chemical screening of the stellar population belonging to the globular cluster NGC 6553 in the Galactic bulge. This study has been conducted in the contest of the Bulge Cluster Origin (BulCO) survey, an ESO-VLT Large Program

Estimating Finite Source Effects in Microlensing Events due to Free-Floating Planets with the Euclid Survey

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, 2015
In recent years free-floating planets (FFPs) have drawn a great interest among astrophysicists. Gravitational microlensing is a unique and exclusive method for their investigation which may allow obtaining precious information about their mass and ...

Positron Transport and Annihilation in the Galactic Bulge

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
The annihilation of positrons in the Milky Way Galaxy has been observed for ∼50 years; however, the production sites of these positrons remains hard to identify.

Chemistry of the Galactic Bulge

open access: yes, 1998
The chemical abundances of the Galaxy tell us about the stellar and interstellar medium (ISM) evolution history. By studying the present-day chemistry of various stars (and the ISM), and combining with stellar evolution models and Galactic evolution ...

Manganese abundances in Galactic bulge red giants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Context. Manganese is mainly produced in type II SNe during explosive silicon burning, in incomplete Si-burning regions, and depends on several nucleosynthesis environment conditions, such as mass cut between the matter ejected and ...

The Galactic bulge as seen by Gaia

open access: yes, 2004
Gaia will give tremendous results on galactic structure and evolution. One expects to get unprecedented information even in dense regions like the Galactic bulge. However, due to extinction and crowding, part of the inner Galaxy may be unreachable. Using

The Galactic Bulge: metallicity and perspective

open access: yes, 2019
I will briefly review the history of bulge metallicity measurements from early studies to the present, including photometric constraints. I will consider the upper limit of iron metallicity in the bulge, how the field relates to chemically complex ...
