Asymmetry of the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in BaTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Phase transitions are typically assumed to behave identically in forward and reverse. This work shows that in the ferroelectric material barium titanate this is not true: heating drives an abrupt, first‐order jump, while cooling gives a smooth, continuous change.

The Galactic center wind

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
The combined effect of winds from a cluster of stars in the central 0.8 pc of the Galaxy is modeled as uniform power and mass input over the central region. The flow becomes supersonic outside the central region, and the expected decrease in pressure is in approximate accord with observations.

Evidence for Itinerant Ferromagnetic Flat Bands Producing Large Transverse Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Itinerant ferromagnetic flat bands are demonstrated in GdCo5 with a high Curie temperature of 940K, a stacked honeycomb–kagome lattice, through angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy and magneto‐thermoelectric measurements. These topological flat bands generate large Berry curvaturte, producing gigantic anomalous Nernst effect with record‐high ...

First Statistical Detection of Mg ii-traced Cool Gas Outflows with JWST toward Cosmic Dawn

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Galactic-scale outflows are a crucial component of galaxy evolution, yet their properties in the early Universe remain poorly constrained. We present the first statistical investigation of Mg ii -traced cool gas outflows in galaxies spanning a wide ...

Galactic wind in NGC 4460: New observations [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Bulletin, 2015
NGC4460 is an isolated lenticular galaxy, in which galactic wind has been earlier discovered as a gas outflow associated with circumnuclear regions of star formation. Using the results of observations in the Halpha line with the scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer on the SAO RAS 6-m telescope, we studied the kinematics of the ionized gas in this galaxy.

The Role of Galactic Winds on Molecular Gas Emission from Galaxy Mergers

open access: yes, 2008
We assess the impact of starburst and AGN feedback-driven winds on the CO emission from galaxy mergers, and, in particular, search for signatures of these winds in the simulated CO morphologies and emission line profiles.

O stars with weak winds: the Galactic case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We study the stellar and wind properties of a sample of Galactic O dwarfs to track the conditions under which weak winds (i.e mass loss rates lower than ~ 1e-8 Msol/yr) appear.

Self‐Powered Flexible Triboelectric‐Gated Ion‐Gel Transistor for Neuromorphic Tactile Sensing and Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Scaling Relations of Starburst-driven Galactic Winds [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2017
Abstract Using synthetic absorption lines generated from 3D hydrodynamical simulations, we explore how the velocity of a starburst-driven galactic wind correlates with the star formation rate (SFR) and SFR density. We find strong correlations for neutral and low ionized gas, but no correlation for highly ionized gas. The correlations for

The Impact of Galactic Winds on the Angular Momentum of Disk Galaxies in the Illustris Simulation

open access: yes, 2017
Observed galactic disks have specific angular momenta similar to expectations for typical dark matter halos in $\Lambda$CDM. Cosmological hydrodynamical simulations have recently reproduced this similarity in large galaxy samples by including strong ...
