d-Galactosamine hepatotoxicity
Experimental and Molecular Pathology, 1978Abstract The role of free fatty acids (FFA) in the pathogenesis of fatty liver was investigated in female rats who received a single ip injection of d -galactosamine-HCl, (GalN), 750 mg/kg body weight. Groups of rats were either fasted for 14 hr prior to GalN injection and then fasted for the duration of the experiment or were fed ad libitum prior ...

GALACTOSAMINE PREVENTS ETHINYLESTRADIOL-INDUCED CHOLESTASIS
Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 2006Ethinylestradiol (EE) induces intrahepatic cholestasis in experimental animals being its derivative, ethinylestradiol 17beta-glucuronide, a presumed mediator of this effect. To test whether glucuronidation is a relevant step in the pathogenesis of cholestasis induced by EE (5 mg/kg b.wt. s.c.

The effect of galactosamine on the resynthesis of glutathione in rat primary hepatocyte cultures was investigated. Cultured rat hepatocytes were treated with galactosamine (4 mM) 1.5 hr prior to concurrent with, or 1.5 hr after cell attachment; total cellular glutathione was then measured over time.

Experimental hepatitis induced by d-galactosamine
Experimental and Molecular Pathology, 1968Abstract Repeated intraperitoneal injections of d -galactosamine produce within 24–48 hours in rat livers alterations that closely resemble human viral hepatitis. Histologic changes include necroses and inflammatory infiltration of periportal areas, mitoses and cell proliferation, the appearance of Councilman bodies, and an increased number of ...

Colchicine prevents d-galactosamine-induced hepatitis
Journal of Hepatology, 1989The hepatoprotective effect of colchicine in a model of liver intoxication with galactosamine (GalN), 375 mg/kg, i.p., was studied in rats. At 0.5, 1, 3, 6, 18 and 24 h after GalN intoxication the following markers of liver damage were measured: serum activity of alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase, hepatic ...

Abstract The activity of uridine diphosphoglucose (UDPG) dehydrogenase (UDPG: NAD+ oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.1.22) from rat liver is inhibited markedly in vitro by galactosamine 1-phosphate and UDPgalactosamine. The Ki value is calculated to be 6.2·10−3 M for galactosamine-1-phosphate. The type of inhibition is non-competitive.
