A colorimetric method for the quantitation of galacturonic acid
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1993A simple, colorimetric assay that is specific for galacturonic acid is presented. The assay uses sulfuric acid, carbazole, a controlled heat water bath, and a spectrophotometer. Galacturonic acid can be detected as free sugar or in polymer forms, such as pectin.

Nonesterified galacturonic acid sequence homology of pectins
Biopolymers, 2000The methyl ester distribution of pectins was studied with a recently developed enzymatic method. Endopolygalacturonase of Kluyveromyces fragilis was used to degrade pectin and the composition of the degradation products was determined with high-performance anion-exchange chromatography at pH 5.

Tin(iv) catalyzed d-galacturonic acid anomerization
Dalton Trans., 2008A comparative kinetic study of anomerization between the four main forms (alpha/beta-pyranosides and alpha/beta-furanosides) of D-galacturonic acid (GalAH(2), 1) and tin(IV) complexed D-galacturonate ([Sn(CH(3))(2)(GalA)(H(2)O)(2)], 2) in D(2)O, is reported. Important differences are shown by pD vs. mutarotation rate profiles of 1 and 2.

Various investigators have tried to attribute the action of the apple to one one of its components. Among thesewere (a) the tannins, whose astringment action was believed to precipitate a protective membrane over inflamed areas, (b) the fruit acids, such as malic which might inhibit bacteria and (c) the vitamin A content, considered instrumental in ...

A monosaccharide of galacturonic acid and its oligomers were produced by hydrolysis of poly-(galacturonic acid)s with water in the absence of any additives in a semibatch flow reactor over the temperature range from 453 to 533 K at 10 MPa. A solid sample of poly(galacturonic acid) was fixed in the reactor, and the residence times of water in the ...
