Towards Holistic, Justice‐Oriented, and Coordinated Freshwater Fish Science and Governance in Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 1, March 2026.
Aotearoa New Zealand faces accelerating loss of freshwater fish biodiversity and growing pressures on culturally significant fisheries. Technical solutions alone have failed because the challenge is not only ecological, but also institutional, cultural, and relational.

Geographic variation in composition of metazoan parasite infracommunities in Galaxias maculatus Jenyns 1842 (Osmeriformes: Galaxiidae) in southern Chile (38-47° S)

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Historia Natural, 2020
Galaxias maculatus is an abundant freshwater fish species in Chilean continental waters where it plays important ecological functions, yet few parasitological records of this species exist in Chile and all of them cover a very limited geographic range ...

Effect of protein and lipids levels in a growth diet on adult whitebait Galaxias maculatus (Jenyns 1842)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2021
Galaxias maculatus aquaculture objectives is to produce millions of eggs. Wild females are small (2 g), have quick sexual maturity and low mean fecundity (500 eggs/female), requiring larger fishes with higher fecundity.

Implementing Bayesian network models using expert elicitation for instream barrier assessment

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 2, February 2026.
We have demonstrated that BN modelling and expert knowledge can be used for assessing the likelihood of fish passage where empirical data are lacking or sparse. The probabilistic framework is consistent with the need to reflect that many structures are partial barriers to fish movement and cannot be represented accurately in a binary pass/fail ...

Acanthostomoides apophalliformis (Trematoda: Cryptogonimidae) does not cause detectable mortality in Galaxias maculatus (Teleostomi: Galaxiidae)

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2006
The present study was conducted to determine if parasite induced mortality existed in a "puyen" population in Moreno Lake, southern Argentina. Data on both parasite abundance and degree of aggregation of parasite frequency distribution showed the absence

Fishing‐Induced Regulation of Diadromous Fish Subsidies in Stream Communities

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 71, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Seasonal migrations of diadromous fish transport marine‐derived nutrients into freshwater ecosystems, enriching communities and restructuring food‐web dynamics. By diminishing these migrations, fishing pressure could disrupt cross‐ecosystem connectivity, thereby altering predator–prey interactions and community size structure.

Cephalic sensorial pores in galaxiid fishes from Chile (Osmeriformes: Galaxiidae)

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2014
The number and arrangement of the cephalic pores of the lateral line in Chilean fishes of the family Galaxiidae, were studied. The study showed that Brachygalaxias differs from Galaxias, in the absence of mandibular pores and in pore number reductions in
