Proton Acceleration with Relativistic Electromagnetic Shock. [PDF]
New Ion Acceleration Mechanism! A novel cosmic‐ray proton acceleration mechanism is proposed, where relativistic electromagnetic shocks accelerate protons transversely. Hamiltonian analysis yields a scaling law linking the proton energy to the minimum longitudinal thickness of the shock.

A New Sample of (Wandering) Massive Black Holes in Dwarf Galaxies from High-resolution Radio Observations [PDF]
We present a sample of nearby dwarf galaxies with radio-selected accreting massive black holes (BHs), the majority of which are non-nuclear. We observed 111 galaxies using sensitive, high-resolution observations from the Karl G.

THE METALLICITY OF VOID DWARF GALAXIES [PDF]
The current Lambda CDM cosmological model predicts that galaxy evolution proceeds more slowly in lower density environments, suggesting that voids are a prime location to search for relatively pristine galaxies that are representative of the building blocks of early massive galaxies.

Gaia DR2 proper motions of dwarf galaxies within 420 kpc [PDF]
A proper understanding of the Milky Way (MW) dwarf galaxies in a cosmological context requires knowledge of their 3D velocities and orbits. However, proper motion (PM) measurements have generally been of limited accuracy and are available only for more ...

Star formation histories of dwarf galaxies in the FIRE simulations: dependence on mass and Local Group environment [PDF]
We study star formation histories (SFHs) of 500 dwarf galaxies (stellar mass $M_\ast =10^5\!-\!10^9\, \rm {M}_\odot$) from FIRE-2 cosmological zoom-in simulations. We compare dwarfs around individual Milky Way (MW)-mass galaxies, dwarfs in Local Group (

Neutron-capture elements in dwarf galaxies [PDF]
Context. We present a large homogeneous set of stellar parameters and abundances across a broad range of metallicities, involving 13 classical dwarf spheroidal (dSph) and ultra-faint dSph (UFD) galaxies. In total, this study includes 380 stars in Fornax,

Dwarf elliptical galaxies as ancient tidal dwarf galaxies [PDF]
The formation of tidal dwarf galaxies (TDGs) is triggered by the encounters of already existing galaxies. Their existence is predicted from numerical calculations of encountering galaxies and is also well documented with observations. The numerical calculations on the formation of TDGs furthermore predict that TDGs cannot contain significant amounts of

AGN-Driven Outflows in Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]
We present spatially resolved kinematic measurements of active galactic nucleus (AGN)-driven outflows in dwarf galaxies in the stellar mass range ∼6 × 108–9 × 109 M⊙, selected from SDSS DR7 and DR8 and followed-up with Keck/LRIS spectroscopy.

Satellites and haloes of dwarf galaxies [PDF]
We study the abundance of satellite galaxies as a function of primary stellar mass using the SDSS/DR7 spectroscopic catalogue. In contrast with previous studies, which focussed mainly on bright primaries, our central galaxies span a wide range of stellar mass, 10^7.5 < M_*^pri/M_sun < 10^11, from dwarfs to central cluster galaxies.

THE OBSERVED PROPERTIES OF DWARF GALAXIES IN AND AROUND THE LOCAL GROUP [PDF]
Positional, structural, and dynamical parameters for all dwarf galaxies in and around the Local Group are presented, and various aspects of our observational understanding of this volume-limited sample are discussed.
