Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies [PDF]
Dwarf Spheroidal (dSph) galaxies are the faintest baryonic systems recognized as galaxies. Understanding the structure and stellar populations of these systems is critical for the modelling of their formation and evolution, and by extension, for understanding the general problem of galaxy formation ...

DWARF GALAXIES AND THE COSMIC WEB [PDF]
We use a cosmological simulation of the formation of the Local Group of Galaxies to identify a mechanism that enables the removal of baryons from low-mass halos without appealing to feedback or reionization. As the Local Group forms, matter bound to it develops a network of filaments and pancakes.

NUCLEI OF EARLY-TYPE DWARF GALAXIES: ARE THEY PROGENITORS OF ULTRACOMPACT DWARF GALAXIES? [PDF]
To address the question of whether the so-called ultracompact dwarf galaxies (UCDs) are the remnant nuclei of destroyed early-type dwarf galaxies (dEs), we analyze the stellar population parameters of the nuclei of 34 Virgo dEs, as well as 10 Virgo UCDs, including one that we discovered and which we report on here.

Giant halos in dwarf irregular galaxies vs. dwarf elliptical galaxies [PDF]
We present a discovery of a giant stellar halo in NGC 6822, a dwarf irregular galaxy in the Local Group. This halo is mostly made of old red giants, showing striking features: 1) it is several times larger than the main body of the galaxy seen in the optical images, and 2) it is elongated in the direction almost perpendicular to the HI disk of NGC 6822.

Galaxy Threshing and the Formation of Ultracompact Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]
Recent spectroscopic and morphological observational studies of galaxies around NGC 1399 in the Fornax Cluster (Drinkwater et al. 2000b) have discovered several `ultra-compact dwarf' galaxies with intrinsic sizes of $\sim$ 100 pc and absolute $B$ band magnitudes ranging from -13 to -11 mag.

Dust in Nearby DWARF Galaxies [PDF]
The aim of the present paper is to look for the gas-to-dust ratio in different types of galaxies and for a correlation between this ratio and the metallicity in dwarf galaxies. The recent compilation of data on nearby galaxies by Schmidt & Boller (1992, hereinafter SB) including HI and dust ...
