The microbiologist's guide to metaproteomics

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Metaproteomics within the multi‐omics framework provides a comprehensive view of microbial systems by identifying proteins, quantifying their levels, detecting posttranslational modifications (PTMs), mapping protein–protein interactions (PPIs), and localizing proteins.

Circulating Tumor DNA as a Marker of Recurrence Risk in Stage III Colorectal Cancer: The α‐CORRECT Study

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Identification of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients at high risk of recurrence could be of substantial clinical use. We evaluated the association of ctDNA status, using a tumor‐informed assay, with recurrence‐free survival (RFS). Methods Stage III CRC patients were enrolled between 2016 and 2020.

Evaluation of Arclight Frugal Smartphone Video Otoscopy

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Frugal innovations are essential in low‐resource settings to provide cost‐effective medical solutions without compromising functionality. The Arclight, which functions as both an ophthalmoscope and an otoscope, is an effective, low‐cost tool for (video) ear examinations in low‐resource settings.

A genome‐wide phylogeny and the diversification of genus Liriomyza (Diptera: Agromyzidae) inferred from anchored phylogenomics

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 48, Issue 1, Page 178-197, January 2023., 2023
Phylogenetic relationships are reconstructed among the Liriomyza leafminers using phylogenomic analysis of nuclear gene loci obtained by anchored hybrid enrichment (AHE). Trees inferred using multiple data types and analysis methods are congruent and individual clade support confirms morphological species groups and relationships among them.

The outer stellar halos of galaxies: how radial merger mass deposition, shells, and streams depend on infall-orbit configurations

open access: yesMonthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
Galaxy mergers are a fundamental part of galaxy evolution. To study the resulting mass distributions of different kinds of galaxy mergers, we present a simulation suite of 36 high-resolution isolated merger simulations, exploring a wide range of ...

Co‐occurrence and successional patterns among diatoms, dinoflagellates, and potential parasites in a coastal upwelling experiment

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, EarlyView.
Abstract Diatom‐dominated blooms in coastal upwelling systems contribute disproportionately to global primary production. The fate of carbon captured during a diatom bloom is often influenced by species‐specific ecological differences. However, successional patterns that take place during a diatom bloom are often oversimplified, and the diversity of ...

Anti‐Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Bacteriophage Loaded Electrospun Fibers for Antibacterial Wound Dressings

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Multidrug resistant Pseudomonas (P.) aeruginosa is detected in many infected wounds and is challenging to treat with antibiotics. As an alternative, this work incorporates anti‐P. aeruginosa Neko phages into electrospun fibres to explore their potential for treating infected wounds.

Homochiral Self‐Sorting During Macrocycle Formation and their Chiroptical Properties

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Imine condensation of C2‐symmetric chiral aldehydes with aliphatic amines results in 2 : 2 macrocycles lacking self‐sorting, whereas aromatic amines yield macrocycles with complete homochiral self‐sorting. These macrocycles exhibit unique chiroptical properties attributed to rigidification compared to the starting aldehydes.

Learning by helping: Evidence from Chinese brokerages' community CSR

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary We propose that firms engaging in community corporate social responsibility (CSR) can acquire valuable local knowledge that improves their core operations. We test our proposition leveraging a unique context‐the Securities Association of China's pairing assistance scheme under the country's targeted poverty alleviation program.

The Effect of Seductive Details on Knowledge Retention in Physics Videos: A Mixed Methods Study

open access: yesJournal of Research in Science Teaching, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Research reports that interesting but irrelevant information, seductive details, in teaching material can impede learning. In science education, the inclusion of historical narratives in lessons to promote interest has been recommended but may hinder learning.
