Relating galaxies across different redshift to study galaxy evolution

open access: yes, 2023
We propose a general framework leveraging the halo-galaxy connection to link galaxies observed at different redshift in a statistical way, and use the link to infer the redshift evolution of the galaxy population.

Gas kinematics of a sample of five Hickson Compact Groups

open access: yes, 2003
We present Fabry Perot observations of galaxies in five Hickson Compact Groups: HCG 10, HCG 19, HCG 87, HCG 91 and HCG 96. We observed a total of 15 galaxies and we have detected ionized gas for 13 of them.

Human Sustainability Leadership and Employee Wellbeing (Flourishing) in Organizations

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This qualitative case study research examines how designing for human sustainability leadership (HSL) affects employee wellbeing (flourishing) (HWBF) in organizations. It is undertaken at a university in the United Kingdom including academics and administrators.

A Context‐Aware Decision Support Framework for Scientific Experiment Configuration

open access: yesSoftware: Practice and Experience, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Defining an experimental configuration is a complex decision problem for early‐stage researchers, who must map goals, constraints, and requirements onto datasets, algorithms, and parameter settings that directly affect experimental outcomes.

‘A Sort of Armed Argument’: Ireland's Civil War of Words

open access: yesHistory, EarlyView.
Abstract This article sets out to contribute to the study of the languages of European civil wars through outlining and analysing the deployment of language as a weapon by the opposing sides of the Irish independence movement that split over the terms of the Anglo‐Irish Treaty of December 1921.

On the Mass-Loss Hypothesis of Virial Mass Discrepancy in Groups and Clusters of Galaxies

open access: yes, 1979
application/pdfThe virial mass discrepancy in groups and clusters of galaxies is reexamined from the viewpoint of the mass-loss hypothesis. The relation between the virial mass discrepancy and the density of the system is derived, and the general ...

Genotyping Contemporary Captive and Historical Wild Western Lowland Gorillas Indicates Captive Breeding Is Maintaining Genetic Diversity in a Critically Endangered Primate

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Captive populations of threatened species risk losing genetic diversity over time. We evaluated the genetic status of contemporary captive western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) at Howletts and Port Lympne and compared this with specimens from a historical wild population.

THE RELATION BETWEEN GALAXY ACTIVITY AND THE DYNAMICS OF COMPACT GROUPS OF GALAXIES

open access: yes, 2004
Using a sample of 91 galaxies distributed over 27 compact groups (CGs) of galaxies, we define an index that allows us to quantify their level of activity due to an active galactic nucleus (AGN) or star formation. By combining the mean activity index with

The localization of galaxy groups in close proximity to galaxy clusters using cosmic web nodes

open access: yes
We investigate the efficacy of using the cosmic web nodes identified by the DisPerSE topological filament finder to systematically identify galaxy groups in the infall regions around massive clusters.
