Multi‐Dielectric Metasurfaces for Ultrabright, Tunable Structural Color and Reconfigurable Optical Filtering with Extraordinarily Large Color Span

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Structural color generation is an emerging field for digital display and printing applications. This report presents a novel truncated‐cone design and the first use of GaP sandwiched between two layers of TiO2, demonstrating ultra‐bright, tunable colors with a record color gamut.

Star Formation and the Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1977
My task is to discuss the galactic context of star formation and to consider how large-scale phenomena in the Galaxy can influence the processes of star formation. This review, and the whole of the first session, are supposed to set the stage for the later consideration of protostellar and prestellar objects and smaller-scale effects in general.

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum for Image Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum (SHWB), a rotation‐ and translation‐invariant descriptor that captures higher‐order (phase) correlations in signals, is introduced. Combining wavelet scattering, bispectral analysis, and group theory, SHWB achieves interpretable, data‐efficient representations and demonstrates competitive performance across texture,

Star Formation Bursts in Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesHighlights of Astronomy, 1986
AbstractWe review the tracers of star formation in galaxies and show how they demonstrate the presence of bursts of star formation in various astrophysical contexts: large extragalactic HII regions in spiral and irregular galaxies and in blue compact galaxies, nuclei of some galaxies, extended star formation in other galaxies.

A Circuit of Mechanically Regulated Transcription Factors Balances Regenerative and Fibrotic Memory of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.

Star Formation in Barred Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
Examination of IRAS results for a sample of nearby galaxies with RC2 types between SO/a and Scd (inclusive) suggests that the only galaxies in which the IRAS colours are dominated by emission from warm dust in star formation regions are barred (Hawarden et al. 1985).

An ATP‐Mediated Antibiotic β‐Peptide Nanofiber That Kills Multidrug‐Resistant Bacteria via a Multistage Mechanism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 3K‐AP system forms infinite supramolecular fibrils that undergo controlled degradation into shorter fragments upon enzymatic hydrolysis. Multitechnique imaging reveals a stepwise bacteriolytic mechanism involving bacterial entrapment, disassembly into lethal constructs, and associated extracellular vesicle release, highlighting the dynamic ...

Star Formation in Barred Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
AbstractStar formation in barred spirals is discussed, including star formation rates, distribution of H ɪ regions, and H ɪ region luminosity functions. In general, global star formation rates and other properties are consistent with non-barred spirals of comparable Hubble class. In barred spirals of intermediate class (SBb-SBc), the effects of the bar
