KNaCaSi4O10 Obtained From Crystallization Experiments in the Quaternary System K2O–Na2O–CaO–SiO2

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 3, March 2026.
The compound KNaCaSi4O10 has been identified in crystallization experiments of glasses in the quaternary system K2O–Na2O–CaO–SiO2 and has undergone structural characterization. Vibrational spectroscopic data have been acquired and interpreted using density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

To multicellularity and back again: Description of two new coccoid genera (Portococcus gen. nov. and Pseudanabaenococcus gen. nov.) in the basal “filamentous” order Pseudanabaenales, Cyanobacteria

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 62, Issue 1, Page 234-255, February 2026.
Abstract Despite recent efforts in taxonomic revision of phylogenetically basal photosynthetic cyanobacteria, cryptic diversity and recurrence of simple plesiomorphic morphotypes has continued to appear in phylogenies with poorly characterized “Synechococcus” and “Pseudanabaena” strains.

An off-centred bulge or a satellite? Hydrodynamical N-body simulations of the disc galaxy NGC 5474 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
We present dynamical models of the star-forming galaxy NGC 5474 based on N-body hydrodynamical numerical simulations. We investigate the possible origin of the compact round stellar structure, generally interpreted as the bulge of the galaxy, but ...

Rotation Curves of Galaxies: A New Theoretical Approach and Comparison With Observations

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Observational results on the rotation curve of a rotating galaxy are used in thought experiments. A binary system is inserted in the galaxy, and equations for radial accelerations of the two bodies are found. Similarly, a single body is inserted in a multicomponent galaxy, and an equation for radial acceleration of the body is discussed.

The bulge-disc decomposition of AGN host galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2016
We present the results from a study of the morphologies of moderate luminosity X-ray selected AGN host galaxies in comparison to a carefully mass-matched control sample at 0.5 < z < 3 in the CANDELS GOODS-S field. We apply a multi-wavelength morphological decomposition analysis to these two samples and report on the differences between the ...

Astragalus zhobensis, a new species of section Caprini (Fabaceae) from Zhob, northern Balochistan, Pakistan

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2025, Issue 12, December 2025.
A new species Astragalus zhobensis, from Qamardin Karez, Zhob district, northern Balochistan, Pakistan is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to A. cartilagineus, but can be distinguished by strigose hairs 3–5 mm long, (not stiff 1.5−4.0 mm long hairs); stipules 5–15 mm (not 8−12 mm) long; leaflets in 4–6 pairs, (not 3–

Bulges on the Fundamental Plane of early-type galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2002
In an ongoing effort to study the formation and evolution of galactic bulges we have investigated the position of 19 bulges of type S0-Sbc on the fundamental plane (FP). We find that bulges, both in B and K band, lie close to but slightly below the FP defined by ellipticals and S0s, i.e. are slightly brighter.

Landslide preparation by forestry activity in a region of high erosion rates: Waingake Landslide, northeast New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 68, Issue 5, Page 1015-1030, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Northeastern New Zealand’s sedimentary rocks and soils are particularly vulnerable to landsliding, with some of the highest specific sediment yields, globally. In addition to earthquakes, rainfall is considered an important landslide triggering process.
