Simulating molecular cloud regulated star formation in Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis is primarily concerned with understanding the process of galaxy formation via the simulation of the interstellar medium, star formation and supernova feedback.

Stride‐to‐Stride Fluctuations and Temporal Patterns of Muscle Activity Exhibit a Stronger Relationship in Running‐Induced Fatigue

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Medicine &Science in Sports, Volume 36, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT During gait, the temporal patterns of stride‐to‐stride fluctuations and muscle activation exhibit similar responses. This study examined if increasing task demands such as fatigued high intensity running affects this relationship. Eleven experienced runners completed two 400‐m runs (R1, R2) with a 3‐min break to induce fatigue.

The relationship between Gas and Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We have investigated the 2D 2-point correlation function, ƐAG, between low column density Lya absorbers and galaxies at a redshift z ~ 1 for the first time.

SDSS IV MaNGA: full spectroscopic bulge-disc decomposition of MaNGA early-type galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
By applying spectroscopic decomposition methods to a sample of MaNGA early-type galaxies, we separate out spatially and kinematically distinct stellar populations, allowing us to explore the similarities and differences between galaxy bulges and discs ...

Multiscale Convolutional–Bidirectional LSTM Fusion of Spatiotemporal Attention for Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesIET Biometrics, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Human activity recognition (HAR) is a core technology in fields such as smart healthcare and human–computer interaction, which aims to classify daily activities (e.g., walking and running) based on sensor data automatically. While existing approaches achieve high accuracy in controlled laboratory settings, they often perform poorly in real‐world ...

Structure and dynamics of galaxies with a low surface-brightness disc - I. The stellar and ionized-gas kinematics [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2008
(abridged) Photometry and long-slit spectroscopy are presented for a sample of 6 galaxies with a low surface brightness stellar disc and a bulge. The stellar and ionised-gas kinematics were measured along the major and minor axis in half of the sample galaxies, whereas the other half was observed only along two diagonal axes. Spectra along two diagonal

OrchardQuant‐3D: combining drone and LiDAR to perform scalable 3D phenotyping for characterising key canopy and floral traits in fruit orchards

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 11, Page 4910-4929, November 2025.
Summary Orchard fruits such as pear and apple are important for ensuring global food security and agricultural economy as they not only provide essential nutrients, but also support biodiversity and ecosystem services. Breeders, growers and plant researchers constantly study desirable tree morphological features and floral characteristics to ensure ...

Towards AMR Simulations of Galaxy Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Numerical simulations present a fundamental building block of our modern theoretical understanding of the Universe. As such the work in this thesis is primarily concerned with understanding fundamental differences that lie between the different ...

A review of multiscale numerical modeling of rock mechanics and rock engineering

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 382-405, September 2025.
Multiscale numerical methods of rock mechanics and rock engineering are reviewed, and the review results show that more attention should be paid to the development of an advanced constitutive model in addition to numerical techniques themselves. Abstract Rock is geometrically and mechanically multiscale in nature, and the traditional phenomenological ...
