Ionised gas kinematics and dynamical masses of z ≳ 6 galaxies from JADES/NIRSpec high-resolution spectroscopy

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We explore the kinematic gas properties of six 5.5 < z < 7.4 galaxies in the JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES), using high-resolution JWST/NIRSpec multi-object spectroscopy of the rest-frame optical emission lines [OIII] and Hα. The objects are small and of low stellar mass (∼1 kpc; M* ∼ 107 − 9 M⊙), less massive than any galaxy ...

The dynamics of the dE galaxy FS76 : bridging the kinematic dichotomy between Es and dEs

open access: yes, 2001
We present major and minor axis kinematics out to 2 half-light radii for the bright (M_B=-16.7) dwarf elliptical FS76, a member of the NGC5044 group. Its velocity dispersion is 46 \pm 2 km/s in the center and rises to 70 \pm 10 km/s at half-light radius. Beyond 1R_e the dispersion starts to fall again.

The MAGPI survey: using kinematic asymmetries in stars and gas to dissect drivers of galaxy dynamical evolution

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society
ABSTRACT We present a study of kinematic asymmetries from the integral field spectroscopic surveys MAGPI and SAMI. By comparing the asymmetries in the ionized gas and stars, we aim to disentangle the physical processes that contribute to kinematic disturbances.
