The mode of gas accretion on to star-forming galaxies [PDF]
It is argued that galaxies like ours sustain their star formation by transferring gas from an extensive corona to the star-forming disc. The transfer is effected by the galactic fountain -- cool clouds that are shot up from the plane to kiloparsec heights above the plane. The Kelvin-Helmholtz instability strips gas from these clouds.

Liquid Metal Nanotransformers for Drug‐Resistant Pan‐Cancer Therapy in Patient‐Derived Organoids
Pan‐cancer therapies are severely limited in drug‐resistance patients due to genetic mutations and other factors, resulting in poor therapeutic outcomes and constrained clinical benefit. Liquid metal nanotransformers, a new class of shape‐transformable nanomaterials capable of dramatic morphological changes, offer a promising physical strategy to ...

Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.

Disk Galaxy Models Driven by Stochastic Self-Propagating Star Formation
We present a model of chemical and spectrophotometric evolution of disk galaxies based on a stochastic self-propagating star formation scenario. The model incorporates galaxy formation through the process of accretion, chemical and photometric evolution ...

ABSTRACT The multifunctional integration of chips with high flexibility and scalable manufacturing is crucial for enhancing chip performance, reducing chip size, and simplifying chip design. However, balancing volume, cost, flexibility, and functionality using traditional heterogeneous integration methods is challenging.

Bridging Scales: Modeling Suppressed Bondi Accretion on Black Holes and Its Impact on Galaxy Growth
The accretion and feedback processes governing supermassive black hole (SMBH) growth span an enormous range of spatial scales, from the Event Horizon to the circumgalactic medium.

Galaxy Formation through Filamentary Accretion at z = 6.1 [PDF]
Abstract We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations of the dust continuum and [C ii] 158 μm line emission from the z = 6.0695 Lyman-Break Galaxy (LBG) WMH5. These observations at 0.″3 spatial resolution show a compact (∼3 kpc) main galaxy in dust and [C ii] emission, with a “tail” of emission extending to the ...

Asking the 5 W's for designing next‐generation bioprocessing
Abstract Biotechnology is expanding beyond traditional, centralized fermentation and toward next‐generation bioprocessing paradigms that emphasize flexible deployment outside the laboratory with application‐specific performance. However, many bioprocesses fail to translate beyond proof‐of‐concept into industrially viable systems because early design ...

Similar Signatures of Coplanar Gas Inflow and Disk Warps in Galactic Gas Kinematic Maps
Hydrodynamic simulations suggest that galactic gas disks form when coplanar gas spirals into the inner regions of the disk. We recently presented a simple modified accretion disk model of viscous galactic disks in which star formation is fed by a radial ...

All energy matters Let us broaden the discussion on solutions to climate change. Greenhouse gases have upset the delicate equilibrium of the Earth's energy balance. Consequently, all sources of heat affect the temperature of the Earth. Although the amount of additional heat generated by humans is a fraction of that produced by the sun, it is generated ...
