Kinematics of Cluster Galaxies and Their Relation to Galaxy Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract We study the kinematics of galaxies within massive clusters, as a probe of the physics of star formation quenching within clusters. Using N-body simulations, we argue that satellite kinematics provide information about galaxy infall that is complementary to the (instantaneous) spatial distribution of satellites and can help ...

Galaxy Zoo: kinematics of strongly and weakly barred galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2023
ABSTRACTWe study the bar pattern speeds and corotation radii of 225 barred galaxies, using integral field unit data from MaNGA and the Tremaine–Weinberg method. Our sample, which is divided between strongly and weakly barred galaxies identified via Galaxy Zoo, is the largest that this method has been applied to.

Exploring Asymmetric Substructures of the Outer Disk Based on the Conjugate Angle of the Radial Action

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We use the conjugate angle of radial action ( θ _R ), the best representation of the orbital phase, to explore the “midplane,” “north branch,” “south branch,” and “Monoceros area” disk structures that were previously revealed in the LAMOST K giants.

Kinematics of simulated galaxies II: Probing the stellar kinematics of galaxies out to large radii [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT We investigate the stellar kinematics of a sample of galaxies extracted from the hydrodynamic cosmological Magneticum Pathfinder simulations out to five half-mass radii. We construct differential radial stellar spin profiles quantified by the observationally widely used λ and the closely related (V/σ) parameters.

Structure and kinematics of the Virgo cluster of galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2020
Aims. This work considers the Virgo cluster of galaxies, focusing on its structure, kinematics, and morphological landscape. Our principal aim is to estimate the virial mass of the cluster. For this purpose, we present a sample of 1537 galaxies with radial velocities VLG <  2600 km s−1 situated within a region of ΔSGL = 30° and ΔSGB = 20° around M ...

Dwarfs in Void Environments (DIVE): The Stellar Kinematics of Void Dwarf Galaxies Using the Keck Cosmic Web Imager

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Dwarf galaxies located in extremely underdense cosmic voids are excellent test beds for disentangling the effects of large-scale environments on galaxy formation and evolution. We present the first results of the Dwarfs in Void Environments Survey, which

The Kinematics of z ≳ 6 Quasar Host Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2021
Abstract We explore the kinematics of 27 z ≳ 6 quasar host galaxies observed in [C ii] 158 μm ([C ii]) emission with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array at a resolution of ≈025. We find that nine of the galaxies show disturbed [C ii] emission, due to either a close companion galaxy or a recent merger.
