Galaxy zoo: stronger bars facilitate quenching in star-forming galaxies

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2021
We have used Galaxy Zoo DECaLS (GZD) to study strong and weak bars in disc galaxies. Out of the 314 000 galaxies in GZD, we created a volume-limited sample (0.01

Effect of bars on the galaxy properties [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics, 2016
Aims. With the aim of assessing the effects of bars on disk galaxy properties, we present an analysis of different characteristics of spiral galaxies with strong bars, weak bars and without bars. Methods.

Galaxy Zoo: bars in disc galaxies★

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2011
We present first results from Galaxy Zoo 2, the second phase of the highly successful Galaxy Zoo project (www.galaxyzoo.org). Using a volume-limited sample of 13 665 disc galaxies (0.01 < z < 0.06 and M-r < -19.38), we study the fraction of galaxies with

The Bars Database on Barred Galaxies

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2001
During 1996 and 1997, the Canary Island Observatories' `International Time' project on Barred Galaxies obtained photometric images in broad- and narrow-band, and intermediate to high spectral resolution spectra in the optical and near IR of a selected set of a dozen barred galaxies. For some of these, 2D Hα kinematics was also obtained.
