Principal Component‐Based Classification of Blazar Candidates of Uncertain Type in the 4FGL/LAT

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We adopted principal component analysis (PCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and support vector machines (SVM), to study classification for a sample of 2708 Fermi blazars: 1142 BL Lac objects (BLLs), 759 flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs), and 807 blazar candidates of uncertain type (BCUs).

The clustering of galaxies in hierarchical galaxy formation models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Galaxy clustering encodes information about the values of cosmological parameters and also about the physical processes behind galaxy formation and evolution. The GALFORM semi-analytical model is the theoretical approach we used to model galaxy formation.

Ongoing Morphological Transformation from Elliptical to Spiral Galaxies Induced by Gas Accretion from Neighboring Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present results from spectroscopic observations of three interacting galaxy systems, each associated with a primary galaxy—VCC 1748, SDSS J1106, and 2MASX J0834—which have been proposed as potential examples of reverse morphological transformation ...

The Bochum Survey of the Southern Galactic Disk: IV. Multi‐Band Photometry

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Southern Galactic Disk Survey (GDS) monitored a mosaic of 268 fields along a 6°‐wide stripe in the southern galactic disk from September 2010 to September 2019. These fields were observed between 21 and 407 times sim r′$$ {r}^{\prime } $$ultaneously in (8mag≲r′≲18mag$$ 8\kern0.6em \mathrm{mag}\lesssim {r}^{\prime}\lesssim 18\kern0.6em ...

Beyond the Brightest: A Deep Learning Approach to Identifying Major and Minor Galaxy Mergers in CANDELS at z ∼ 1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Galaxy mergers play an important role in galaxy evolution. Therefore, accurate merger identifications are paramount for achieving a complete understanding of how galaxies evolve. As we enter the era of large, deep, high-resolution imaging surveys, we can

EBHIS Local Volume Galaxy Hi Survey (LVGHIS)

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Here, we present the “Local Volume Galaxy Hi Survey” (LVGHIS). It is based on the first data release of the Milky Way portion of the Effelsberg Bonn Hi‐Survey (EBHIS). We homogeneously measured the mass and dynamics of the local volume galaxies within the radial velocity limit of |vLSR|≤600kms−1$$ \mid {v}_{\mathrm{LSR}}\mid \le 600\kern0.6em \

A Morphology Catalog of Galaxies in CEERS: Evolution in the Size and Color Gradients of Galaxies Since Cosmic Dawn

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present measurements of morphological parameters from fitting 53,885 galaxies detected to a magnitude limit of F356W < 28.5 in the CEERS NIRCam imaging with galfit in six broadband filters: F115W, F150W, F200W, F277W, F356W, and F444W.

Investigation on tunnel stability considering pipe‐roof support with transparent soil technology

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study integrates transparent soil technology, 3D reconstruction and numerical simulation to captures the full‐field deformation of shield tunnel instability. Results demonstrate that pipe‐roof support enhances stability via the “soil‐arching barrier effect,” effectively restraining failure wedge development by extending stress transfer paths ...

Classifying Astronomical Transients Using Only Host Galaxy Photometry

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory will discover tens of thousands of extragalactic transients each night. The high volume of alerts demands immediate classification of transient types in order to prioritize ...
