Statistics of Galaxy Clustering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this introductory talk we will establish connections between the statistical analysis of galaxy clustering in cosmology and recent work in mainstream spatial statistics. The lecture will review the methods of spatial statistics used by both sets of scholars, having in mind the cross-fertilizing purpose of the meeting series.

THE ELLIPTICITIES OF GALAXIES IN GALAXY CLUSTERS OF DIFFERENT MORPHOLOGICAL TYPE

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2014
The distribution of galaxy ellipticities was analyzed for 207 rich PF galaxy clusters found in the Munster Red Sky Survey Galaxy Catalogue. Clusters with BM types from a comparison with the ACO catalogue were also classified on the new scheme.

The Hubble constant from galaxy cluster scaling-relation and SNe Ia observations: a consistency test

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2023
In this paper, we propose a self-consistent test for a Hubble constant estimate using galaxy cluster and type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) observations. The approach consists, in a first step, of obtaining the observational value of the galaxy cluster scaling ...

Probing the evolution of galaxy clusters using SZ effect and non-thermal emission: First results from A1413 [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Mass is the most fundamental property of galaxy clusters. However, measuring it is still a challenge. Calibrating mass from intracluster medium observables such as the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effect is subject to uncertainty and biases because of the ...

A Formation Mechanism for “Wrong Way” Radio Relics

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Radio relics are typically found to be arc-like regions of synchrotron emission in the outskirts of merging galaxy clusters, bowing out from the cluster center.

The JWST PEARLS View of the El Gordo Galaxy Cluster and of the Structure It Magnifies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The massive galaxy cluster El Gordo ( z = 0.87) imprints multitudes of gravitationally lensed arcs onto James Webb Space Telescope Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) images.
