The Galaxy Density Environment of Gamma‐Ray Burst Host Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2004
We analyze cross-correlation functions between Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) hosts and surrounding galaxies. We have used data obtained with the Very Large Telescope at Cerro Paranal (Chile), as well as public Hubble Space Telescope data. Our results indicate that Gamma-Ray Burst host galaxies do not reside in high galaxy density environments.

The Environments of Markarian Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1990
The extensively studied Markarian sample of 1500 ultraviolet excess galaxies contains many Seyfert, starburst, and peculiar galaxies. Using the 20 minute V plates obtained for the construction of the Hubble Space Telescope Guide Star Catalog, we have investigated the morphologies of the Markarian galaxies and the environments in which they are located.

Quantifying the Impact of Relativistic Precession on Tidal Disruption Event Light Curves

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The tidal field of a black hole can turn a star into a gas stream whose orbit can precess, especially if the a black hole is rapidly spinning. In this work, we investigate the impact of precession on the light curves of tidal disruption events (TDE).

The SAGA Survey. VI. The Size–Mass Relation for Low-mass Galaxies Across Environments

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We investigate how Milky Way (MW)–like environments influence the sizes and structural properties of low-mass galaxies by comparing satellites of MW analogs from the Satellites Around Galactic Analogs (SAGA) Survey with two control samples: an ...

The impact of lens galaxy environments on the image separation distribution

open access: yes, 2005
We study the impact of lens galaxy environments on the image separation distribution of lensed quasars. We account for both environmental convergence and shear, using a joint distribution derived from galaxy formation models calibrated by galaxy-galaxy ...

The epochs of early-type galaxy formation as a function of environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The aim of this paper is to set constraints of the epochs of early-type galaxy formation through the 'archaeology' of the stellar populations in local galaxies.

The Environments of Radio Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1996
In the unified schemes of AGNs BL Lac objects are believed to be Fanaroff-Riley (FR) type I radio galaxies with a relativistic jet aligned to the observer's line of sight (e.g. Urry & Padovani 1995). Kollgaard et al. (1992) and Owen et al. (1995) suggest some FR II sources can also be BL Lac parents. Clearly, isotropic properties such as the galaxy

Understanding Degradation Mechanisms in Water‐In‐Salt Electrolyte. Part 2: Impact of the Electrochemical Parameters on the Cycling Behavior of LiFePO4 versus TiS2

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, EarlyView.
Cycling water‐in‐salt batteries involves complex degradation processes that require multiprobe analysis. Using online electrochemical mass spectrometry (OEMS), postmortem X‐ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) (including hard‐XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the degradation mechanisms are examined in composite electrodes (TiS2 and LiFePO4)

Interaction between the Intergalactic Medium and Galactic Outflows from Dwarf Galaxies

open access: yes, 1999
We have carried out 2D hydrodynamical simulations in order to study the interaction between supernova-powered gas outflows from low-mass galaxies and the local intergalactic medium (IGM).

The zCOSMOS survey: the role of the environment in the evolution of the luminosity function of different galaxy types [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aims. An unbiased and detailed characterization of the galaxy luminosity function (LF) is a basic requirement in many astrophysical issues: it is of particular interest in assessing the role of the environment in the evolution of the LF of different ...
