The Formation and Evolution of Disk Galaxies

open access: yes, 1998
We review some of our recent progress in modelling the formation of disk galaxies in the framework of hierarchical structure formation. Our model is not only consistent with the local observations, but also provides a good description of disk evolution out to redshift z~1.

LGBTQ+ Affirmative Care Training in Counselor Education: A Community‐Based Inquiry

open access: yesCounselor Education and Supervision, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Counselor educators, counselors‐in‐training, and LGBTQ+ community members engaged in a community‐based qualitative inquiry exploring LGBTQ+ affirmative care education. Findings revealed counselor educators’ components and delivery of content, developmental implications for applying LGBTQ+ affirmative care, and gaps between education and LGBTQ+

A Survey of Galaxy Pairs in the SDSS Photometric Images based on Faster-RCNN

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Galaxy pairs hold significant importance in understanding the evolution of galaxies, and the extensive search for a large sample of galaxy pairs is meaningful.

Semi-Analytic Galaxy Evolution (SAGE): Model Calibration and Basic Results

open access: yes, 2016
This paper describes a new publicly available codebase for modelling galaxy formation in a cosmological context, the "Semi-Analytic Galaxy Evolution" model, or SAGE for short. SAGE is a significant update to that used in Croton et al. (2006) and has been

Formation and evolution of bars in disc galaxies

open access: yes, 2002
I follow a bar from its formation, via its evolution, to its destruction and, perhaps, regeneration. I discuss the main features at each stage and particularly the role of the halo. Bars can form even in sub-maximum discs. In fact, such bars can be stronger than bars which have grown in maximum discs.

Massive Black Hole Binaries: Dynamical Evolution and Observational Signatures

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, 2012
The study of the dynamical evolution of massive black hole pairs in mergers is crucial in the context of a hierarchical galaxy formation scenario. The timescales for the formation and the coalescence of black hole binaries are still poorly constrained ...

Dissipative N - body code for galaxy evolution

open access: yes, 2000
The evolving galaxy is considered as a system of baryonic fragments embedded into the static dark nonbaryonic (DH) and baryonic (BH) halo and subjected to gravitational and viscous interactions.

The Distribution of Galaxies in Relation to Their Formation and Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1974
The distribution of galaxies on the sky is not random, but has structure on a scale of ~ 30 Mpc. Similar structure in the cosmic background radiation is not present. Another expected source of structure in the background radiation is the finite size of the light horizon in the early Universe. The lack of observable structure in the background radiation

Random discrete probability measures based on a negative binomial process

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract A distinctive functional of the Poisson point process is the negative binomial process for which the increments are not independent but are independent conditional on an underlying gamma variable. Using a new point process representation for the negative binomial process, we generalize the Poisson–Kingman distribution and its corresponding ...
