The Thick Disk in the Galaxy NGC 4244 from S^4G Imaging [PDF]
If thick disks are ubiquitous and a natural product of disk galaxy formation and/or evolution processes, all undisturbed galaxies that have evolved during a significant fraction of a Hubble time should have a thick disk. The late-type spiral galaxy NGC

Microfluidic engineering enables the fabrication of chitosan‐coated, melatonin‐loaded nanoemulsions with controlled release and enhanced physicochemical stability for space pharmaceutics. Interfacial biopolymer coating modulates droplet behavior under accelerated thermal stress and simulated microgravity.

The Role of Dust in the Early Universe I : Protogalaxy Evolution [PDF]
We develop one-zone galaxy formation models in the early Universe, taking into account dust formation and evolution by supernova (SN) explosions. Especially we focus on the time evolution of dust size distribution, because ${\rm H}_{2}$ formation on the ...

This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Star Formation Quenching in Quasar Host Galaxies
Galaxy evolution is likely to be shaped by negative feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGN). In the whole range of redshifts and luminosities studied so far, galaxies hosting an AGN frequently show fast and extended outflows consisting in both ionized

The Evolution of the Mass-Metallicity Relation at 0.20 < z < 0.35 [PDF]
We present a spectroscopic study of 343 blue compact galaxies (BCGs) at 0.20 < z < 0.35 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR7 data. We derive gas phase oxygen abundance using the empirical and direct method.

The formation and evolution of low-surface-brightness galaxies [PDF]
Our statistical understanding of galaxy evolution is fundamentally driven by objects that lie above the surface-brightness limits of current wide-area surveys (μ ∼ 23 mag arcsec−2).

The star-formation history of the Milky Way Galaxy
The star-formation histories of the main stellar components of the Milky Way constrain critical aspects of galaxy formation and evolution. I discuss recent determinations of such histories, together with their interpretation in terms of theories of disk ...

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.
