Optical observations of M81 galaxy group in narrow band [SII] and Hα filters: Holmberg IX [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2009
We present observations of the nearby tidal dwarf galaxy Holmberg IX in M81 galaxy group in narrow band [SII] and Hα filters, carried out in March and November 2008 with the 2m RCC telescope at NAO Rozhen, Bulgaria.

Multiwavelength observations of an evolved galaxy group: An end-point of galaxy merging? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The group of galaxies RXJ1340.6+4018 has approximately the same bolometric X-ray luminosity as other bright galaxy groups and poor clusters such as the Virgo cluster. However, 70 per cent of the optical luminosity of the group comes from a dominant giant

Identification of Compact Groups of Galaxies in IllustrisTNG300

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We identify compact groups (CGs) of galaxies in an IllustrisTNG300 simulation using a friends-of-friends algorithm. Our approach is designed to be comparable to systematic CG searches based on spectroscopic surveys, while avoiding the conventional ...

Groups of Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesHighlights of Astronomy, 1977
I would like to report on some work that Ed Turner and I have done on groups of galaxies and how groups may be used to obtain useful cosmological information. Of course the classic study of groups of galaxies was done by de Vaucouleurs (1975) who made a catalogue of groups and loose associations of galaxies in the local supercluster. Partly to obtain a

Unraveling the Electronic Structure of Silicon Vacancy Centers in 4H‐SiC

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The electronic structure of the silicon vacancy in 4H‐SiC is probed via transient absorption spectroscopy, uncovering previously inaccessible excited states of the quartet and doublet spin channels, including the V2' transition. In combination with theoretical analysis, a comprehensive picture of the electronic structure is established.

The effect of the environment on the evolution of galaxy colours [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In chapter 1 of this thesis, I give a brief overview of the birth of modern cosmology and the growth of the current paradigm. I then go on to describe the different types of galaxies, the star formation rates within them and give some notes about galaxy ...

HCG 57: Evidence for Shock-heated Intergalactic Gas from X-Rays and Optical Emission Line Spectroscopy

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray observations of the compact group HCG 57, and optical integral field spectroscopy of the interacting galaxy pair HCG 57A/D.

Hot Gas in Groups and Their Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1998
It is clear that there is an important interplay between galaxies and the group environment. At the velocity dispersions (~ 100 km s−1) characteristic of groups, the galaxies interact strongly, leading to triggering of star formation, and galaxy merging.

Solvent‐Guided Chiral Assemblies and Chemical Doping of OEG‐Functionalized Conjugated Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Solvent‐dependent aggregation pathways dictate whether conjugated polymers form chiral lyotropic liquid‐crystalline assemblies or achiral packed aggregates. Mapping solvent‐controlled β₁ and β2 states reveals that weaker backbone association favors β₁ aggregates and reorganizable twisted mesophases, whereas stronger backbone association favors β2 ...
