Kinematics of Cluster Galaxies and Their Relation to Galaxy Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract We study the kinematics of galaxies within massive clusters, as a probe of the physics of star formation quenching within clusters. Using N-body simulations, we argue that satellite kinematics provide information about galaxy infall that is complementary to the (instantaneous) spatial distribution of satellites and can help ...

The Stellar Kinematics of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
The kinematic properties of elliptical galaxies are summarized. New developments are discussed in four areas: (i) the Faber-Jackson relation and the role of second parameters (ii) the luminosity-rotation relation (iii) the figures of elliptical galaxies and (iv) the mass-to-light ratio as a function of radius.

The Kinematics of z ≳ 6 Quasar Host Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2021
Abstract We explore the kinematics of 27 z ≳ 6 quasar host galaxies observed in [C ii] 158 μm ([C ii]) emission with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array at a resolution of ≈025. We find that nine of the galaxies show disturbed [C ii] emission, due to either a close companion galaxy or a recent merger.

Radio galaxies in galaxy groups: kinematics, scaling relations, and AGN feedback [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2021
ABSTRACT We investigate the kinematic properties of a large (N = 998) sample of COSMOS spectroscopic galaxy members distributed among 79 groups. We identify the Brightest Group Galaxies (BGGs) and cross-match our data with the VLA-COSMOS Deep survey at 1.4 GHz, classifying our parent sample into radio/non-radio BGGs and radio/non-radio ...

Kinematic Modeling of Distant Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2012
Abstract Evolution of galaxies is one of the most actual topics in astrophysics. Among the most important factors determining the evolution are two galactic components which are difficult or even impossible to detect optically: the gaseous disks and the dark matter halo.

Kinematic Profiles of SO Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1997
Stellar rotation curves, velocity dispersion profiles, and line-of-sight velocity distributions (LOSVD) as derived from absorption lines are presented for the major axes of 18 S0 and two elliptical galaxies. Ionized gas rotation curves and dispersions were measured from the [O III] 5007 Angstrom emission line in the 9 S0 galaxies displaying this ...
