HIDDEN ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI IN EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2016
ABSTRACT We present a stacking analysis of the complete sample of early-type galaxies (ETGs) in the Chandra COSMOS (C-COSMOS) survey, to explore the nature of the X-ray luminosity in the redshift and stellar luminosity ranges and

Compact Nuclei in Galaxies at Moderate Redshift:II. Their Nature and Implications for the AGN Luminosity Function

open access: yes, 1998
This study explores the space density and properties of active galaxies to z=0.8. We have investigated the frequency and nature of unresolved nuclei in galaxies at moderate redshift as indicators of nuclear activity such as Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN ...

Liquid Metal Nanotransformers for Drug‐Resistant Pan‐Cancer Therapy in Patient‐Derived Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pan‐cancer therapies are severely limited in drug‐resistance patients due to genetic mutations and other factors, resulting in poor therapeutic outcomes and constrained clinical benefit. Liquid metal nanotransformers, a new class of shape‐transformable nanomaterials capable of dramatic morphological changes, offer a promising physical strategy to ...

Origin of very high energy emission in galaxy clusters

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The Perseus cluster of galaxies with the central galaxy NGC 1275 is ideally suitable for studying both the physics of relativistic jets from Active Galactic Nuclei and for revealing the feedback role of the central galaxy.

Ruling out Conventional Photoionization Models in the Closest LINER, M31, with CFHT/SITELLE Observations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The ionization mechanisms of low-ionization nuclear emission-line regions (LINERs), which are common in the local Universe, have been debated for decades.

TeV Diffuse Emission From the Inner Galaxy

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2018
The TeV diffuse emission from the Galactic plane is produced by multi TeV electrons and nuclei interacting with radiation fields and ambient gas, respectively. Measurements of the TeV diffuse emission help constrain CR origin and transport properties. We

Dynamical Hotness, Star Formation Quenching, and Growth of Supermassive Black Holes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
A stellar system is dynamically hot when its kinetic energy is dominated by random motion represented by the velocity dispersion σ _hot . We use MaNGA data to obtain the inner and outer dispersion of a galaxy, σ _in and σ _out , to characterize its ...

Off-center nuclei in galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
The nucleus of a galaxy orbits around the mass centroid. Orbital motions appear overstable in numerical experiments started with a galaxy's nucleus at rest atop its mass centroid. The amplitude doubles in 6-10 orbital periods. Orbits precess, nutate, and change their amplitudes, but they keep fairly constant periods.
