VMC galaxy structures

open access: yes, 2019
Formation and evolution of galaxies are mainly driven by mergers/interactions. In low red shift, minor mergers play a significant role. It is believed that they are the fundamental components in the formation of the halo of galaxies like Milky Way and in building the outskirts of massive elliptical galaxies. The signatures of these mergers/interactions

Staphylococcus aureus AgrA Modulators From South African Antimicrobial Plants

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
The study workflow utilized validated in silico [molecular docking, fingerprinting, pharmacokinetics prediction, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, ligand‐protein contact maps] tools to bioprospect a wide variety of metabolites surveyed from South African plants with antimicrobial activities, and target them against the key S.

Correlation of Low z Lyman-alpha Absorbers with HI-selected Galaxies

open access: yes, 2005
In this work, observational evidence for the connection between low column density Lyman-alpha absorbers and large-scale structure traced by gas-rich galaxies is investigated.

LGBTQ+ Affirmative Care Training in Counselor Education: A Community‐Based Inquiry

open access: yesCounselor Education and Supervision, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Counselor educators, counselors‐in‐training, and LGBTQ+ community members engaged in a community‐based qualitative inquiry exploring LGBTQ+ affirmative care education. Findings revealed counselor educators’ components and delivery of content, developmental implications for applying LGBTQ+ affirmative care, and gaps between education and LGBTQ+

Random discrete probability measures based on a negative binomial process

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract A distinctive functional of the Poisson point process is the negative binomial process for which the increments are not independent but are independent conditional on an underlying gamma variable. Using a new point process representation for the negative binomial process, we generalize the Poisson–Kingman distribution and its corresponding ...

Tidal Torquing of Elliptical Galaxies in Cluster Environments

open access: yes, 2010
Observational studies of galaxy isophotal shapes have shown that galaxy orientations are anisotropic: a galaxy's long axis tends to be oriented toward the center of its host.

UV–Vis Spectra of Carbonic Acid: Rationalizing Experimental Redshifts between Monomer and Bulk based on (H2CO3)n Calculations

open access: yesChemPhysChem, EarlyView.
In bulk carbonic acid (e.g., in interstellar icy dust grains) cluster formation produces two distinct UV‐Vis spectral features redshifted by ≈2 eV (25 nm) and by ≈5 eV (80 nm) compared to gas phase single molecule carbonic acid 's adiabatic ionization energy. Theory and experiment were used to investigate the origin of these shifts.

Visit Nearby Halo Substructures Using LAMOST DR9 MRS Data

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Based on the LAMOST DR9 Medium Resolution Spectra (MRS) catalog, combined with astrometries from Gaia DR3, we conducted an investigation into the substructures in the stellar halo to obtain their chemical and kinematic information.
