Multiwavelength Observations of the Second Largest Known FR II Radio Galaxy, NVSS 2146+82 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present multi-frequency VLA, multicolor CCD imaging, optical spectroscopy, and ROSAT HRI observations of the giant FR II radio galaxy NVSS 2146+82. This galaxy, which was discovered by the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS), has an angular extent of nearly 20'

Robocasting of a Water‐Based Biopolymer/WO3 Nanopowder Paste as a Precursor to Tungsten Carbide Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a novel, additive manufacturing approach to produce complex, porous tungsten carbide structures using water‐based direct ink writing/robocasting. Leveraging a modified commercial printer and heat treatment, the process yields lightweight, electrically conductive 3D architectures capable of supporting a mechanical load.

The transformation of Spirals into S0 galaxies in the cluster environment

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2015
We discuss the observational evidences of the morphological transformation of Spirals into S0 galaxies in the cluster environment exploiting two big databases of galaxy clusters: WINGS (0 ...

The Stability of Some Galaxy Disks is Still Perplexing

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The problem of how some disk galaxies avoid forming bars remains unsolved. Many galaxy models having reasonable properties continue to manifest vigorous instabilities that rapidly form strong bars and no widely accepted idea has yet been advanced to ...

Unlocking the Power of Quercetin‐Encapsulated Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles: A Multifunctional Approach to Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) are investigated for bone regeneration given their remarkable structural and functional properties. MBGNs are functionalized with Mn and Cu and incorporated with quercetin, a natural flavonoid exhibiting antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

Galaxy Formation Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We review the current theory of how galaxies form within the cosmological framework provided by the cold dark matter paradigm for structure formation. Beginning with the pre-galactic evolution of baryonic material we describe the analytical and numerical

High‐Density Boron Nitride Nanotube Composites via Surfactant‐Stabilized Lyotropic Liquid Crystals for Enhanced Space Radiation Shielding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐density BNNT films, enabling mechanical robustness and high space radiation shielding effectiveness, are fabricated using surfactant‐stabilized BNNT liquid crystal. Simulations indicate that a 50 g cm−2 BNNT film can reduce radiation exposure by 56% compared to zero shielding, potentially doubling the duration of astronaut missions on the lunar ...

The Complex Structure of the Bulge of M31

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
The bulge of M31 is of interest regarding the nature of galactic bulges and how their structure relates to bulge formation mechanisms and their subsequent evolution.

Weak Gravitational Flexion

open access: yes, 2005
Flexion is the significant third-order weak gravitational lensing effect responsible for the weakly skewed and arc-like appearance of lensed galaxies. Here we demonstrate how flexion measurements can be used to measure galaxy halo density profiles and ...

Structure and Evolution of Regular Galaxies

open access: yes, 2021
The Thesis is an attempt to combine data from three previously independent areas - the structure and kinematics of stellar populations of the Galaxy, photometric and dynamical models of galaxies, and models of the dynamical and physical evolution of galaxies. This synthesis was made with the goal to understand better the vast topic of the structure and
