Human Disturbance but Not Predation Risk Is Associated With Increased Vigilance in Roe Deer
Roe deer vigilance is lower in natural than in modified habitats, decreases with group size, but is not significantly influenced by stable wolf presence, suggesting habitat‐driven risk perception and reliance on spatial avoidance over increased alertness.

Summary A 25‐year‐old Icelandic mare diagnosed with bilateral temporohyoid‐osteoarthropathy, moderate pharyngeal instability and bilateral laryngeal paralysis was presented because of intermittent stridor and dyspnoea worsening during exercise. As a previous ceratohyoidectomy had not improved these symptoms substantially, a permanent tracheostomy was ...

Suppressing galloping-induced vibrations by integrating bluff body with surface protrusions
As a kind of self-excited large amplitude vibration, galloping is detrimental to engineering structures. Therefore, how to effectively suppress it has been a crucial issue for both industry and academia.

The use of exercise testing to assess training efficacy in sport horses
Summary Training programmes for horses must be tailored to the physiological demands of each Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) discipline to optimise performance and welfare. Standardised exercise tests (SETs) have emerged as essential tools for evaluating equine fitness by measuring physiological responses to controlled workloads.

Experimental study on self-excited vibration of artificial imitation ice for real transmission lines [PDF]
This paper proposes a selection method for artificial imitation ice. Using computational fluid dynamics simulations, the lift and drag coefficients of D-shaped, sector-shaped, and crescent-shaped iced conductor sections applicable to test lines were ...

Summary Air embolism is rare in horses and typically associated with complications following intravenous catheterisation or other medical procedures. Exercise‐induced pulmonary haemorrhage (EIPH) is common in racehorses but not usually associated with air embolism. This report describes a case of air embolism in a 4‐year‐old Thoroughbred with EIPH. The

A Comparison of the Quasi-Steady Assumption with Unsteady Effects on Tower Galloping Analysis
Traditional tower galloping theory is founded on the quasi-steady assumption, which has inherent limitations. By treating tower galloping as a single-degree-of-freedom crosswind bending flutter problem and introducing flutter derivatives into the ...
