Colombian Criollo Equine Gallop Variations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Equine Science
Kinematics is a noninvasive technique for observing locomotion characteristics in equines and other species through video analysis. The present study aimed to identify the gallop characteristics of the Colombian Criollo horse and verify whether they ...

Supernova Ia: a Converging Delayed Detonation Wave [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A model of a carbon-oxygen (C--O) presupernova core with an initial mass 1.33 M_\odot, an initial carbon mass fraction 0.27, and with an average mass growth-rate 5 x 10^{-7} M_\odot/yr due to accretion in a binary system was evolved from initial central ...

Use of Restricted Nursing and a Bovine Appeasing Substance on the Welfare, Growth Performance, and Response to Vaccination of Beef Calves at Weaning

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.

Aerodynamic forcing characteristics of dry cable galloping at critical Reynolds numbers

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Mechanics - B/Fluids, 2015
AbstractThis article attempts to highlight characteristics of the aerodynamic forcing on a rigid circular cylinder experiencing dry galloping vibrations. Observations from a series of wind tunnel tests are studied comparatively with the literature on rain–wind cable vibrations and on flow past inclined lifting bodies such as missiles, for drawing ...

Experimental study on the galloping characteristics of single ice-coated transmission lines under oblique flows

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
AbstractGalloping of ice-coated transmission lines is occasionally observed under oblique wind directions. However, most current investigations on the galloping mechanisms are for flow perpendicular to the span of the transmission lines. In order to address this gap, this research studies the galloping characteristics of ice-coated transmission lines ...

Exercise‐specific plasma proteomic signatures in racehorses: Candidates for training adaptation and peak load monitoring

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Racehorses undergo profound physiological changes with training and competition, but current biomarkers inadequately capture the complex molecular dynamics of exercise. This study aimed to identify novel plasma biomarkers of training adaptation and peak load using high‐throughput proteomics.

A third-order characteristic-based-split finite element scheme of Spalart–Allmaras model and its application to flow past crescent iced 4-bundled conductors

open access: yesAdvances in Aerodynamics
The one-equation Spalart–Allmaras (SA) model is employed to close the Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes equations (RANS equations), and research on turbulent numerical algorithm is carried out.

Transcriptomic signatures reveal systemic adaptations and immune modulation in response to training and competitive racing in horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The molecular mechanisms underlying adaptation to physical exertion and racing stress in horses remain incompletely understood. Peripheral blood transcriptomics offers a minimally invasive method to monitor systemic responses to exercise and identify biomarkers of adaptation or overload. Objectives To evaluate transcriptomic changes

God's Presence in the Aisle: How God Salience Encourages Preference for Ultra‐Processed Foods

open access: yesPsychology &Marketing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT God‐related cues are pervasive in consumers' daily lives, yet little research has examined how God salience shapes consumer food choices. Drawing on compensatory control theory and the literature on symbolic healing, we present findings from six studies, including a field experiment, demonstrating that high (vs.
