Realizability of algebraic Galois extensions by strictly commutative ring spectra

open access: yes, 2007
We discuss some of the basic ideas of Galois theory for commutative S-algebras originally formulated by John Rognes. We restrict our attention to the case of finite Galois groups and to global Galois extensions.

Applications of representation theory and K-theory to problems in algebraic number theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In this thesis we consider three main problems: the Galois module structure of rings of integers in wildly ramified extensions of Q; Leopoldt's conjecture; and non-commutative Fitting ideals and the non-abelian Brumer-Stark conjecture.

Galois extensions of structured ring spectra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We introduce the notion of a Galois extension of commutative S-algebras (E_infty ring spectra), often localized with respect to a fixed homology theory. There are numerous examples, including some involving Eilenberg-Mac Lane spectra of commutative rings,

Galois Theory of Commutative Ring Spectra

open access: yes, 2016
This thesis discusses Galois theory of ring spectra in the sense of John Rognes. The aim is to give a clear introduction that provides a solid foundation for further studies into the subject. We introduce ring spectra using the symmetric spectra of Hovey,

ON ZP-EXTENSIONS OF COMMUTATIVE RINGS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study Z(p)-extensions of a commutative ring R. Some general properties corresponding to the finite Galois theory by Chase, Harrison and Rosenberg are proved. After that, we consider Z(p)-extensions of commutative rings of characteristic p. We describe

On the additive image of zeroth persistent homology

open access: yesTransactions of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 13, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract For a category X$X$ and a finite field F$F$, we study the additive image of the functor H0(−;F)∗:rep(X,Top)→rep(X,VectF)$\operatorname{H}_0(-;F)_* \colon \operatorname{rep}(X, \mathbf {Top}) \rightarrow \operatorname{rep}(X, \mathbf {Vect}_F)$, or equivalently, of the free functor rep(X,Set)→rep(X,VectF)$\operatorname{rep}(X, \mathbf {Set ...

Symbolic Analysis for Boundary Problems: From Rewriting to Parametrized Groebner Bases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We review our algebraic framework for linear boundary problems (concentrating on ordinary differential equations). Its starting point is an appropriate algebraization of the domain of functions, which we have named integro-differential algebras.

Modular analogs of character formulas and minimal lifts of modular forms

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract If f$f$ is a mod‐3 eigenform of weight 2 and level Γ0(ℓ2)$\Gamma _0(\ell ^2)$ for a prime ℓ$\ell$ such that ℓ≡−1(mod3)$\ell \equiv -1 \pmod {3}$, and ℓ$\ell$ is a vexing prime for f$f$, we show that there is no obstruction to finding a minimal lift of f$f$, but that there is an obstruction to finding a nonminimal lift.

On the integral simplicial volume of cyclic covers of mapping tori

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 114, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the integral simplicial volume of cyclic covers of manifolds that fiber over the circle with fiber given by an n$n$‐dimensional torus. By studying the integral filling volume—an invariant introduced by Frigerio and the first author—for the monodromy, we establish both lower and upper ...

Interpolation categories for conformal embeddings

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 133, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract In this paper, we give a diagrammatic description of the categories of modules coming from the conformal embeddings V(slN,N)⊂V(soN2−1,1)$\mathcal{V}({\mathfrak{sl}}_{N},N)\subset \mathcal{V}({\mathfrak{so}}_{{N}^{2}-1},1)$. A small variant of this construction (morally corresponding to a conformal embedding of glN${\mathfrak{gl}}_{N}$ level N ...
