Effect of vasoconstriction on galvanic skin response amplitude

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physiology, 1964
Vascular mediation of the effect of cooling on galvanic skin response (GSR) amplitude was investigated by maintaining a finger site under isothermal conditions while inducing reflex vasoconstriction by cooling the rest of the hand in a water bath at 15 C.

Galvanic Skin Responses to Motion Pictures

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1970
Number and amplitude of galvanic skin responses (GSRs) during rest, during a bland and during a stressor film were examined in 20 male student Ss. The Zuckerman Multiple Affect Adjective Check List (MAACL) was administered before and after both stressor and bland films.

Study of Galvanic Skin Response in Psoriasis

Archives of Dermatology, 1963
Controlled study of the galvanic skin response (GSR) in ten psoriasis subjects has shown an increased skin resistance and a decreased reactivity to certain sweat stimulating and sweat inhibiting drugs.

THE PERIPHERAL MECHANISM OF THE GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE

Psychophysiology, 1970
ABSTRACTDarrow held that the galvanic skin response (GSR) appears to be a complicated phenomenon because a number of events are sequentially involved. The mechanism resulting in the peripheral components of electrodermal phenomena is not complicated. Following excitation, sympathetic impulses to cutaneous tissues and subsequent release of acetylcholine

Amygdaloid afterdischarge and galvanic skin response

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1964
Abstract 1. 1. The investigation was carried out on lightly anesthetized cats which were immobilised by succinylcholine. Recording and stimulation were made in the basolateral part of the amygdaloid nucleus. GSR was recorded from the volar surface of the fore paw by a DC-coupled amplifier. 2. 2.

Voluntary Inhibition of Galvanic Skin Response

Psychological Reports, 1971
To assess the effectiveness of instructional set in voluntary inhibition of GSR 43 male Ss were assigned to 3 treatment groups. All groups were shown 4 slides of female nudes once, were given a break or instructions, and were shown the slides again. Group 1 received instruction to try to inhibit their response. Group C

Galvanic Skin Response

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1965
THE DIFFERENTIAL diagnosis of organic from psychogenic pain had long confounded pediatricians and psychiatrists alike. The sympathetic components of anxiety may blanch the viscera and be described as pain, and an unnecessary laparotomy is sometimes the result.

Skin Resistance and Galvanic Skin Response

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1962
The convenience of the galvanic skin response (GSR) and basal skin resistance (R) as indicators of autonomic activity has led to their widespread application in psychological and pharmacological investigations since the late 19th century, but the many fundamental controversies to be found in the literature testify to the questionable reliability of ...

GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF DEAFNESS

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1947
PRESENT clinical methods used in the differential diagnosis of organic from psychogenic deafness have proved adequate in the majority of cases. However, equivocal and unreliable responses are met with, particularly in psychotic or retarded patients or those with a "compensation fixation." Methods of testing suspect cases of deafness are included in ...
