The cell cycle of phytoplankton: A review
Abstract Phytoplankton play an enormously important role in ecology and serve as critical food for aquatic organisms. The phytoplankton population rapidly increases in number after continuous cell cycles. Thus, understanding the cell cycle of phytoplankton is fundamental to the aquatic ecosystem research.

Health benefits of microalgae and their microbiomes
Microalgae may offer solutions to the societal challenge we face concerning the lack of antibiotics treating the growing level of antimicrobial resistant bacteria and fungi in clinical and industrial settings. While the vast majority of microalgae and their associated microbiota are unstudied, they may be a fascinating and rewarding source for novel ...

Structural Characterization of Maitotoxins Produced by Toxic Gambierdiscus Species
Identifying compounds responsible for the observed toxicity of the Gambierdiscus species is a critical step to ascertaining whether they contribute to ciguatera poisoning. Macroalgae samples were collected during research expeditions to Rarotonga (Cook Islands) and North Meyer Island (Kermadec Islands), from which two new Gambierdiscus species were ...

A Strategic Framework for Community Engagement in Oceans and Human Health
Abstract Over the past two decades, scientific research on the connections between the health and resilience of marine ecosystems and human health, well‐being, and community prosperity has expanded and evolved into a distinct “metadiscipline” known as Oceans and Human Health (OHH), recognized by the scientific community as well as policy makers.

Abstract Tetrodotoxins (TTXs) are a group of potent neurotoxins named after the Tetraodontidae fish family (pufferfish). TTXs have been reported in several animal taxa, both terrestrial and marine. The ingestion of TTX‐contaminated flesh can cause serious neurotoxic symptomatology and can eventually lead to death.
