An Application of Game-Refinement Theory to Mah Jong

Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2004
This paper presents an application of the game refinement theory to a class of multi-person incomplete-information games, especially in the domain of Mah Jong that is an old Chinese four-person incomplete-information game. We have developed a computer program to analyze some statistics on the number of the possible options and the game length.

Solving the Sophistication-Population Paradox of Game Refinement Theory

Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2016
A mathematical model of game refinement was proposed based on uncertainty of game outcome. This model has been shown to be useful in measuring the entertainment element in the domains such as boardgames and sport games. However, game refinement theory has not been able to explain the correlation between the popularity of a game and the game refinement ...

Analysis and Evaluation of Player Engagement in Serious Education Game using Game Refinement Theory Case Study: Arithmatopia Game

2020 6th International Conference on Interactive Digital Media (ICIDM), 2020
Deep engagement when playing games has the potential to be one of the important things that determines the impact of playing games, especially in serious education games that have the specific purpose of helping players learn a certain subject. Arithmatopia is a serious education game to help elementary school students improve arithmetic skills with ...

Measuring force of game information in the brain: Linking game refinement theory and neuroscience

2016 8th International Conference on Knowledge and Smart Technology (KST), 2016
In this research the concept of game refinement is linked to a new approach of neuroscience in order to model the force of the game information acting in the brain. The amount of force acting in the brain is related to the emotional impacts in the mind as an excitement or an addiction to the game.

Game refinement theory: Paradigm shift from performance optimization to comfort in mind

Entertainment Computing, 2019
Abstract Since the era of Chinook, a computer program had won its first title against Marion Tinsley in the game of draughts. While most computer program in a variety of games has been designed to be a competitive opponent, it had derailed from one of the crucial aspects of games: fosters learning.

Overmathematisation in game theory: pitting the Nash Equilibrium Refinement Programme against the Epistemic Programme

Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part A, 2009
The paper argues that the Nash Equilibrium Refinement Programme was less successful than its competitor, the Epistemic Programme (Interactive Epistemology). The prime criterion of success is the extent to which the programmes were able to reach the key objective guiding non-cooperative game theory for much of the twentieth century, namely, to develop a

A Game Informatical Analysis of Dark Chess by Game Refinement Theory

2020
This paper explores the evolutionary changes of Chinese chess variants such as Chinese dark chess. A computer program is created for each variant and self-play experiments are performed to collect many data such as the average number of possible moves and game length.

An Ultra-Refined Grammar for Interactions: Thoughts on Robert Aumann’s Philosophy of Game Theory

A Refined Game Theory Approach to Railroad- Shipper Negotiations

2005
Game theory provides a framework for analyzing problems when there are a small group of participants. This is unlike the economic model of perfect competition, which requires several participants. Game theory began as a way to analyze parlor card games but has developed into a rigorous analytical technique for evaluating strategic interactions.
