Markedly elevated gamma-glutamyltransferase.
Journal of insurance medicine (New York, N.Y.), 1998Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) is a highly sensitive but poorly specific liver enzyme commonly used to detect hepatobiliary disease and possible alcohol abuse. Isolated elevations of this enzyme may be due to biochemical anomalies rather than the presence of pathology.

gamma-Glutamyltransferase in the newborn.
Early human development, 1987gamma-Glutamyltransferase activity was measured serially in newborn infants. Median activity was 94 units/l, with the 95th centile at 243 units/l. It was unrelated to gestation. Significant increases occurred after treatment with phenobarbitone and with the introduction of oral feeding after parenteral nutrition.

gamma-Glutamyltransferase in breast milk.
Annals of clinical biochemistry, 2005The activity of gamma-glutamyltransferase was measured in a series of human breast milk samples collected during the first post natal week. All the samples showed considerable gamma-glutamyltransferase activity. The mean level fell from 28.8 U/ml to 3.9 U/ml seven days later.
