Monte Carlo models and analysis of galactic disk gamma-ray burst distributions [PDF]

open access: yes
Gamma-ray bursts are transient astronomical phenomena which have no quiescent counterparts in any region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Although temporal and spectral properties indicate that these events are likely energetic, their unknown spatial ...

Advanced Liquid Electrolyte Design for High‐Voltage and High‐Safety Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the key challenges in designing high‐voltage, safe electrolytes for lithium metal batteries (LMBs), including dendrite growth, interfacial instability, and flammability. The corresponding strategies cover regulating salt concentrations, designing fluorinated weakly solvating solvents, applying ionic liquids, and developing flame ...

Harnessing the Biological Responses Induced by Nanomaterials for Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
Nanomaterial (NM)‐induced toxicity can be strategically repurposed for cancer therapy. This review summarizes the mechanism by which NMs selectively activate specific cellular processes to regulate cell fate independently. We also discussed how NMs‐induced biological responses can be leveraged as therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.

The role of the host—Neutrophil biology

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophils) are myeloid cells packed with lysosomal granules (hence also called granulocytes) that contain a formidable antimicrobial arsenal. They are terminally differentiated cells that play a critical role in acute and chronic inflammation, as well as in the resolution of inflammation and wound ...

A Comprehensive Timing Analysis of Individual Pulses in X-Ray Bursts from SGR J0501+4516

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The pulses in X-ray-burst (XRB) light curves from soft gamma-ray repeaters (SGRs) are generally thought to arise from magnetic crustal fractures or magnetic reconnection, reflecting the evolution of the energy release process in magnetars. In this study,
