Are Single-zone Emission Models Sufficient to Explain GRB 220426A and GRB 230812B?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the Universe’s most energetic phenomena (isotropic luminosity ∼10 ^51 –10 ^54 erg s ^−1 ) lasting for a very short duration (∼milliseconds—a few seconds).

Flexible Chemiresistive Chitosan‐Glycerol Sensors on Laser‐Induced Graphene Electrodes for Room‐Temperature Ammonia Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Flexible Chitosan‐glycerol sensor integrated with porous laser‐induced graphene (LIG) electrodes enable room‐temperature chemiresistive detection of ammonia (NH3) and proof‐of‐concept detection of fish spoilage. ABSTRACT We report a metal‐free sensor platform combining laser induced graphene (LIG) electrodes with drop‐deposited, glycerol‐plasticized ...

Investigation of the Gamma-Ray Bursts Prompt Emission Under the Relativistically Expanding Fireball Scenario

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The spectral properties of a composite thermal emission arising from a relativistic expanding fireball can be remarkably different from the Planck function.

The Influence of Mesoscale Particle Structure on the Electrode Degradation and Resultant Electrochemistry of Lithium Ion Cells With Nickel Rich Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide Positive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Milled polycrystalline NMC811 cathode (MPC NMC) with smaller secondary particle and higher surface area had 1) greater cathode tortuosity, 2) reduced surface Ni on the cycled MPC cathodes consistent with surface reconstruction, and 3) increased Ni deposition from cathode‐anode crosstalk, manifesting in lower functional capacity and higher impedance ...

Evidence for Diverse Optical Emission from Gamma-Ray Burst Sources

open access: yes, 2007
Optical Transients from gamma-ray burst sources, in addition to offering a distance determination, convey important information on the physics of the emission mechanism, and perhaps also about the underlying energy source.

High‐Power Rapid Laser‐Induced Synthesis of Multi‐functional Cobalt Metal‐Organic Framework With an Unprecedented Synthesis Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Laser‐assisted synthesis enables rapid (within 1 h) and high‐yield (≥90%) production of Co‐MOFs with mesoporous structures, tunable magnetic and optical properties, and efficient adsorption of N2, CH4, and CO2 for low‐energy gas separation. DFT calculations elucidate the electronic structure and adsorption behavior.

Highly Anisotropic Quasi‐Direct Organic Metal Halide Hybrids: A Platform for Polarization‐Sensitive Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
One‐dimensional C4N2H14PbBr4 is shown to have a quasi‐direct electronic band structure and strongly anisotropic transport with polarized broadband emission. A GW/Bethe–Salpeter excited‐state force formalism, supported by polarized Raman and temperature‐dependent photoluminescence, identifies low–frequency Pb–Br phonons that drive ultrafast exciton self‐

Distributions of Energy, Luminosity, Duration, and Waiting Times of Gamma-Ray Burst Pulses with Known Redshift Detected by Fermi/GBM

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Discovered more than 50 years ago, gamma-ray burst (GRB) prompt emission remains the most puzzling aspect of GRB physics. Its complex and irregular nature should reveal how newborn GRB engines release their energy.

Fermi Establishes Classical Novae as a Distinct Class of Gamma-ray Sources

open access: yes, 2014
A classical nova results from runaway thermonuclear explosions on the surface of a white dwarf that accretes matter from a low-mass main-sequence stellar companion.
