Persistent and Transient Blank Field Sources [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 2006
Blank field sources (BFS) are good candidates for hosting dim isolated neutron stars (DINS). The results of a search of BFS in the ROSAT HRI images are revised. We then focus on transient BFS, arguing that they belong to a rather large population.

A Population Study of the Radio Emission of Fast Blue Optical Transients

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Despite the fact that the progenitor of fast blue optical transients (FBOTs) is still a subject of debate, FBOTs are sometimes suggested to originate from the core collapse of ultra-stripped stars and be powered by a spinning-down neutron star. Following

Transient acoustic sources [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1983
The characteristics of several different classes of transient, underwater acoustic sources are set forth and compared. Two relatively new sources—the water gun and imploding piston source—are compared with more well-established explosive devices and air guns.

Neutrino Echoes from Multimessenger Transient Sources [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
The detection of the high-energy neutrino event, IceCube-170922A, demonstrated that multimessenger particle astrophysics triggered by neutrino alerts is feasible. We consider time delay signatures caused by secret neutrino interactions with the cosmic neutrino background and dark matter and suggest that these can be used as a novel probe of neutrino ...

Short Duration Gamma-Ray Bursts and Their Outflows in Light of GW170817

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2020
The detection of GW170817, it’s extensive multi-wavelength follow-up campaign, and the large amount of theoretical development and interpretation that followed, have resulted in a significant step forward in the understanding of the binary neutron star ...

Limits on Simultaneous and Delayed Optical Emission from Well-localized Fast Radio Bursts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We present the largest compilation to date of optical observations during and following fast radio bursts (FRBs). The data set includes our dedicated simultaneous and follow-up observations, as well as serendipitous archival survey observations, for a ...

Models of ultraluminous X-ray transient sources [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2020
Context. It is now widely accepted that most ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) are binary systems whose large (above 1039 erg s−1) apparent luminosities are explained by super-Eddington accretion onto a stellar-mass compact object. Many of the ULXs, especially those containing magnetized neutron stars, are highly variable; some exhibit transient ...

MOSFiT: Modular Open Source Fitter for Transients [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2018
AbstractMuch of the progress made in time-domain astronomy is accomplished by relating observational multiwavelength time-series data to models derived from our understanding of physical laws. This goal is typically accomplished by dividing the task in two: collecting data (observing), and constructing models to represent that data (theorizing).
