Dysphagia, dysphonia & dyspnoe caused by ostrich beak-like anterior C1-C2 cervical osteophyte

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2019
Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) or Forestier's disease is associated with cervical osteophytes, most commonly at the C5–6 level. We report a large beak-like anterior osteophyte at C1/C2 level presenting with severe dysphagia, dysphonia ...

Corner contribution to percolation cluster numbers in three dimensions

open access: yes, 2014
In three-dimensional critical percolation we study numerically the number of clusters, $N_{\Gamma}$, which intersect a given subset of bonds, $\Gamma$.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Chiral Perturbation Theory for phi -> rho gamma gamma and phi -> omega gamma gamma

open access: yes, 1996
We predict differential decay distributions for phi->rho gamma gamma and phi -> omega gamma gamma using chiral perturbation theory. We also consider the isospin violating decay phi -> omega pi^0.

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...

Stereotactic Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for Merkel cell carcinoma brain metastases: case report and systematic review of literature

open access: yesBrain and Spine
Introduction: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive neuroendocrine skin malignancy with an increasing incidence. Although it frequently presents with loco-regional metastases, brain metastases (BMs) are exceptionally rare, lacking ...

Long-Term Survival and Improved Quality of Life following Multiple Repeat Gamma Knife Radiosurgeries for Recurrent Glioblastoma Multiforme: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncological Medicine, 2013
The management of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is in most cases complex and must be specifically tailored to the needs of the patient with the goals of extended survival and improved quality of life.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
