Coincidence summing correction for a voluminous 152Eu source

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2020
A code is developed to correct for the coincidence summing effect in detecting a voluminous gamma source, and this code is applied to a152Eu standard source as a test case. The source is 1000 mL of liquid in a cylindrical shape.

ICEBIN: Image Contrast Enhancement Based on Induced Norm and Local Patch Approaches

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Traditional histogram equalization may cause degraded results of over-enhanced images under uneven illuminations. In this paper, a simple and effective image contrast enhancement method is proposed to achieve high dynamic range imaging.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

FCDFusion: A fast, low color deviation method for fusing visible and infrared image pairs

open access: yesComputational Visual Media
Visible and infrared image fusion (VIF) aims to combine information from visible and infrared images into a single fused image. Previous VIF methods usually employ a color space transformation to keep the hue and saturation from the original visible ...

Non-Uniform-Illumination Image Enhancement Algorithm Based on Retinex Theory

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
To address the issues of fuzzy scene details, reduced definition, and poor visibility in images captured under non-uniform lighting conditions, this paper presents an algorithm for effectively enhancing such images.

Correction: Gamma-Ray Observatory [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1991
LAST month's account of the launching of the Gamma-Ray Observatory (GRO) (Nature 350,451; 1991) contained a concise and accurate description of a grazing incidence photon detector. Unfortunately, such devices work only for X-rays, and GRO has no such thing on board. The two large instruments, EGRET and COMPTEL, are based on scintil-lators.

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Multi-Color Channel Gamma Correction in Fringe Projection Profilometry

open access: yesPhotonics
Three-dimensional shape measurement plays an important role in various fields. As a way of three-dimensional measurement, fringe projection profilometry (FPP) is widely used because of its non-contact, simple structure, and high stability. One of the key

Fast and Efficient Visibility Restoration Technique for Single Image Dehazing and Defogging

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Poor weather conditions are detrimental to transportation systems and increase the likelihood of road accidents. Haze and fog are the most responsible atmospheric parameters affecting visibility and hence the traffic performance.

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...
