Gamma irradiation facilities

Radiation Physics and Chemistry (1977), 1981
Abstract A review is presented on the status and problem of gamma irradiation facilities for radiation processing. Requirements for the radioisotope source in the radiation processing and its comparison with electron accelerator are discussed. The gamma radioisotope source has speciality in the process of thicker products and source design, though it

Gamma and electron irradiation

Physics Bulletin, 1969
The UK Panel on Gamma and Electron Irradiation was set up in 1963 by the coming together of industrial organizations, the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the Ministry of Health and interested individuals mainly from the universities. Originally its purposes were connected with the promotion of fundamental and applied research into the use of radiation for ...

Resuscitation of Microorganisms after Gamma Irradiation

Radiation Research, 1999
Microbiological analysis of rock exposed to gamma-radiation doses between 0 and 9.34 kGy indicated that some microorganisms became viable but nonculturable (VBNC) and lost metabolic capacity as measured by BIOLOG microtiter plates. To investigate this phenomenon, portions of irradiated rock were placed at 4 degrees C for 2 months in an attempt to ...

Gamma Irradiation of Starch

2018
As a physical treatment, gamma irradiation has many advantages, such as high efficiency, low-cost, eco-friendship, and no remarkable rise in temperature during the treatment process. The degradation changes of starch by radiation are reproducible and quantitative, without needing special appliances to control temperature and environment. The effects of

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on the Chicken Retina

Radiation Research, 1971
Chickens were irradiated in the head region with an exposure of 2000 R. The retinae were removed and studied 30 days after irradiation. Phospholipids, proteolipids, ribonucleic acid (RNA), deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), acid phosphatase, and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) were analyzed biochemically.

CONTROL OF TRICHINOSIS BY GAMMA IRRADIATION OF PORK

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1954
The effect of exposure of trichinous pork to gamma irradiation as a possible means of controlling the disease trichinosis in swine and man has occupied our attention during the past 18 months. By way of introduction, it might be well first to outline the cycle of trichinous infection.

Continuous Irradiation of Beagles with Gamma Rays

Radiation Research, 1993
The effects of exposure to 60Co gamma rays for the duration of life on mortality patterns in beagles were investigated. Doses of 3, 7.5, 18.8, 37.5, 75, 127.5, 262.5, 375, or 540 mGy were delivered over a 22-h day 7 days a week. Hazard models with time-dependent covariates were used to identify radiation-related trends in mortality.

Gamma irradiation of chitosan.

Journal of biomedical materials research, 1998
Chitosan has potential biomedical applications that may require the final products to be sterilized before use. The gamma irradiation of purified and highly deacetylated chitosan fibers and films at sterilizing doses (up to 25 kGy) caused main chain scissions.

Gamma irradiation of some unsaturated steroids

The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1960
The chemical and physical effects of radiation on some steroids, mainly in the powdered form, were investigated. The steroid hormones, cortisone, prednisone, and progesterone, were found to show high stability to radiation damage to supersterilization doses (6 to 18 Mrad) both in presence and absence of air.
