Gamma-ray spectrometry of humans at the University of Utah [PDF]
A human total-body counter was designed and built with two 20 X 10 cm NaI (Tl) crystals suspended over an "isoresponse surface" upon which the subject reclines. This surface is curved from head to knee and from left to right, so that a gamma-ray emitting object is detected with equal efficiency when placed anywhere upon it. The positioner and detectors

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Ranking the geothermal potential of radiothermal granites in Scotland: are any others as hot as the Cairngorms? [PDF]
Prior investigations concur that the granite plutons in Scotland which are most likely to prove favourable for geothermal exploration are the Ballater, Bennachie, Cairngorm and Mount Battock plutons, all of which have heat production values greater than ...

Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.
