Use of gamma-ray spectrometry for identifying weakly magnetic diamondiferous kimberlites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Diamondiferous kimberlites are the most important source of bedrock diamond deposits. The goal of the study is to analyze the use of gamma-ray spectrometry techniques to explore weakly magnetic diamondiferous kimberlites.

Activation cross sections of \alpha-induced reactions on $^{nat}$Zn for Ge and Ga production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The production cross sections of $^{68,69}$Ge and $^{66,67}$Ga by \alpha-induced reactions on $^{nat}$Zn have been measured using the stacked-foil activation method and off-line \gamma-ray spectrometry from their threshold energies to 50.7 MeV.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Spectral gamma ray logging: A cost-effective method for uranium exploration

open access: yesRadiation Protection and Environment, 2018
The most useful technique in uranium exploration program is undoubtedly radiometric surveys. This is due to the fact that uranium emits gamma rays ranging from as low as 47kev to 2.2Mev, which can be detected and quantified using suitable radiation ...

The Gamma-ray Spectrometry of Fission Products, (V)

open access: yesJournal of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan / Atomic Energy Society of Japan, 1961
The calculation of scintillation spectra for the broad parallel gamma rays emitted from U235 fission products incident on a right circular cylindrical NaI (Tl) crystals is presented. Typical scintillation spectra from fission products are presented. The parameters of the spectra were tabulated as functions of time after fission.

Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Deoxidation of Natively Oxide Layer of Copper Powders in a Fluidized Bed

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Training Future Engineers to Be Ghostbusters: Hunting for the Spectral Environmental Radioactivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Although environmental radioactivity is all around us, the collective public imagination often associates a negative feeling to this natural phenomenon.

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

An Airborne and Vehicular Gamma Survey of Greenham Common, Newbury District and Surrounding Areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The airborne gamma ray survey recorded more than 40,000 scintillation spectra and 20,000 spectra from semiconductor detectors. The vehicular survey produced a further 1346 and 763 spectral sets respectively. The installation, calibration, recording and
