Environmental control of natural gap size distribution in tropical forests [PDF]
Natural disturbances are the dominant form of forest regeneration and dynamics in unmanaged tropical forests. Monitoring the size distribution of treefall gaps is important to better understand and predict the carbon budget in response to land use and ...

On permutation patterns with constrained gap sizes
We consider avoidance of permutation patterns with designated gap sizes between pairs of consecutive letters. We call the patterns having such constraints distant patterns (DPs) and we show their relation to other pattern notions investigated in the past. New results on DPs with 2 and 3 letters are obtained.

Optimising mesh size with escape gaps in a dual-species portunid-trap fishery
In south-eastern Australia, the same baited, round traps (comprising 50–57-mm mesh netting) are used to target giant mud, Scylla serrata and blue swimmer crabs, Portunus armatus in spatially separated fisheries.

Pounding Forces Effect on Steel and Reinforced Concrete Building: Systematic Review [PDF]
This study reviews research on earthquake-induced pounding in adjacent buildings with reinforced concrete frames and in buildings with steel frames. The review focuses on three main parameters: soil–structure interaction, base isolation systems, and the ...

Size and Causes of the Occupational Gender Wage-gap in the Netherlands [PDF]
Research from the United States consistently shows that female‐dominated occupations generally yield lower wages than male‐dominated occupations. Using detailed occupational data, this study analyses the size and causes of this occupational gender wage‐gap in the Dutch labour market using multi‐level modelling techniques.

Size-dependent Energy gap in Some Semiconductor Nanomaterials [PDF]
This research discusses how the variation in band gap with the change of particle size nano level for CdS, GaAs, InN, and InP has been measured theoretically from a model based on energy differences between nanoparticles and their corresponding bulks ...

Canopy gaps in two virgin beech forest reserves in Slovakia
The formation, size distribution and percentage of gaps in two virgin deciduous forests are presented in two case studies. Gaps are defined as openings in the canopy above 2/3 of stand height.
