On Gapped Set Intersection Size Estimation

Proceedings of the 24th ACM International on Conference on Information and Knowledge Management, 2015
There exists considerable literature on estimating the cardinality of set intersection result. In this paper, we consider a generalized problem for integer sets where, given a gap parameter δ, two elements are deemed as matches if their numeric difference equals δ or is within δ. We call this problem the gapped set intersection size estimation (GSISE/),

The Employer Size-Wage Gap: Evidence for Britain

Economica, 1993
. University of Edinburgh and University of SussexFinal version received 5 May 1992.This paper presents estimates for the employer plant size-wage gap for Britain. Using anordered probit model, selectivity-corrected wage equations are estimated for three plant sizecategories.

GAPS IN MAMMALIAN BODY SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS REEXAMINED

Ecology, 1999
Holling suggested that discontinuities in the body size distributions among species of animals are a universal feature of terrestrial biomes. We compared the magnitudes of body size gaps of mammal communities of North America and Australia to those generated by a simple random null model.

Gap Size Effect on Tip-Gap Turbulent Flow Structure

41st AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2005
This paper presents results from a thorough study of the tip-gap turbulent flow structure in a low-speed linear compressor cascade wind tunnel at Virginia Tech. The endwall pressure measurements and the surface oil flow visualizations were made on a stationary endwall to obtain the flow features and to determine the measurement profiles of interest.

Gap size dependence of the dielectric strength in nano vacuum gaps

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2013
We study the dielectric strength of vacuum gaps of under 100 nm. We find their dielectric strengths to have a power law dependence on the gap size. We apply this power law to find that the dielectric strength of a vacuum gap of 10 nm between two tungsten electrodes is 6.5 V/nm.

Nano-Size and Miscibility Gap

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Reports on the alloys formed from immiscible atoms when they are contained in a nano-sized system have initiated several research activities in the recent years. Bridging of the miscibility gap at nanoscale is significant as it has the potential to produce novel alloy materials with useful technological applications.

Forest Spatial Dynamics with Gap Expansion: Total Gap Area and Gap Size Distribution

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1996
Abstract Recent studies on forest dynamics in diverse forested ecosystems suggest that forest stands are disturbed more frequently if they are next to existing gaps, and that gaps once formed tend to expand their area in subsequent years. We examine total gap area and the size distribution of gaps at equilibrium in a lattice-structured forest model ...
