Gas insulated transmission lines - GIL

2008 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition, 2004
The GIL is a transmission system for the transmission of high power levels over long distances, to solve specific routing or access problems, or as connections in power plants and substations. As a gas-insulated system, the GIL has the advantage of having electrical behavior similar to an overhead line. This is of importance to system operation.

Direct Current Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2018
The technology behind dc power transmissions shows an ever-increasing usage worldwide. Predominantly installed in remote areas, the use of overhead transmission lines is reasonable. Today, dc transmission technology is entering a new era, where rather densely populated areas are being firmly looked at with the desire of nonvisibility transmission lines.

Corrosion protection for gas-insulated transmission lines

IEEE Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting,, 2003
For buried gas insulated transmission lines (GILs), a coating against corrosion is absolutely necessary and similar to most other directly buried metallic installations. Active corrosion protection, also called catholic protection, may be added to take care about possible failures of the coating as an additional quality insurance system to the passive ...

Solution of coupled electromagnetic and thermal problems in gas-insulated transmission lines

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2003
Gas-insulated high-voltage and extra high-voltage transmission lines are a new technology for transmitting high-power ratings over long distances. A previous paper was devoted to predict the current distribution along with the external flux density in this multiconductor system, highlighting its proximity effect.

Directly buried gas-insulated transmission lines (GIL)

PES T&D 2012, 2012
Regarding the increasing interest in underground transmission systems, gas-insulated lines (GIL) represent an attractive alternative to cable solutions. Changes in the regulatory framework with respect to planned extensions of extra high voltage (EHV) systems have intensified the demand for underground transmission lines in general.

Comparison of Transmission Losses and Voltage Regulation of Overhead and Gas Insulated Transmission Line

2020 IEEE International Conference on Advances and Developments in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ICADEE), 2020
In an Electrical power system, the generating plants are located far away from the loads and gets transmitted through transmission lines. The transmission line can be an overhead line or underground cable. For the last forty-five years, a new technology GITL has been presented as a substitute for underground cables.

Operating Parameters of Compressed-Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1969
This paper describes a method to choose the physical parameters of a compressed-gas-insulated cable. A calculation of the power rating, losses, and critical length is carried out based on the physical parameters. This calculation is then compared with the ratings of pipe-type cable and is shown to be superior particularly for high-voltage, high-power ...
